nossos dias. The present investigation has as object of study the relationship between human beings and non-human animals, more precisely with domestic animals, in a generational perspective. As a result of society's massive expression of pet care, the idea arose to carry out a study on the perceptions of guardians from two different age groups about their companion animals and animals in general, analyzing the practices and social representations that make up these relationships catering to generational differences. This theme did not emerge only from my personal interest in animals, but also because it was never mentioned during my degree in Sociology, which brought some curiosity in me. The idea for this investigation emerged from an attempt to understand how this relationship between humans and animals is built, in the context of current Portuguese society, from the dilution of socially constructed categories as watertight, as well as their social representations. Therefore, the pertinence of this work lies in the fact that it can contribute to studies in this area, in the Portuguese academic context, enriching not only the social sciences, but sociology itself, which has been slow to accept and be willing to invest in the knowledge of human-animal relations. Furthermore, this work becomes interesting since it allows us to know a little more about the human being and how animals can have an impact on the social web that until recently, and which continues for some thinkers, was thought of as totally dominated and only influenced by human being. The present investigation thus outlines itself as a way of contributing towards bringing new knowledge about the issue of the place of domestic animals today. |
