O espaço intersticial do Vale do Rodo como elemento estruturante do núcleo urbano do Peso da Régua

Abstract

O trabalho consiste no desenvolvimento de uma solução de projeto para o espaço intersticial entre a cidade do Peso da Régua e a freguesia de Godim. Os dois núcleos urbanos estão separados por uma linha de água – Ribeira da Meia Légua – que tem adjacentes uma série de terrenos vinícolas que compõem uma reserva ecológica ao longo do Vale do Rodo. Procura-se caraterizar o vale e ambas as frentes urbanas deste interstício através de desenhos de análise que fazem o levantamento gráfico do conjunto de temas que surgem nesta área. Pretende-se através de uma solução de projeto, reforçar a especificidade do lugar e valorizar a circunstância ambiental muito particular – as vinhas entre os dois núcleos urbanos – que remetem para o notável contexto paisagístico do território mais alargado do Douro Vinhateiro. Propõe-se uma estratégia para conter o permanente avanço do construído sobre a área das vinhas, reconhecendo que as construções tendem a voltar costas ao vale. A solução envolve substituir o pesado sistema viário e ferroviário neste interstício urbano, de forma a libertar a perspetiva que se tem no interior do vale e a criar percursos pedonais independentes dessas infraestruturas. Mediante um acordo com os proprietários dos vários espaços vinícolas, trata-se de introduzir uma sequência de espaços públicos ao longo da ribeira que não invalidam o sistema produtivo e, através dos quais, se procura estender os usos que se fazem da margem do Rio Douro, explorando assim um novo âmbito paisagístico, entre a margem do rio e as vinhas ao longo do vale. Refletimos sobre os muros de sustentação e outras construções comuns na arquitetura da paisagem vinhateira, no sentido de encontrar nessas estruturas, o elemento híbrido no projeto que faz a passagem do urbano para os espaços vinhateiros. A descrição projetual é apresentada de forma a equiparar-se a uma implementação faseada do projeto, estando dividida em diferentes temas organizados segundo a importância que cada um tem para o “costurar” das duas frentes urbanas.

The work consists in developing a design solution for the interstitial space between the town of Peso da Régua and the locality of Godim. The two townships are separated by a water line – Ribeira da Meia Légua – being adjacent several vineyards that make up an ecological reserve along the Vale do Rodo. It seeks to characterize the valley and both the urban fronts of this interstice through drawings of analysis that make the graphic study of the range of matters that arise in this area. We intended to design a solution that reinforces the specificity of the place and that valorizes the particular environmental context of the vineyards, which refers to the remarkable landscape context of the wider territory of the Douro Valley. It is proposed a strategy to contain the permanent advance of the built towards the vineyard’s area, recognizing that buildings tend to turn the rears to the valley. The solution involves replacing the heavy road and rail system in this urban interstice, in order to liberate the perspective inside the valley and to create alternative footpaths, independent from these infrastructures. Through an agreement with the owners of the winery spaces, we intend to introduce a sequence of public spaces along the water line that do not invalidate the productive system and, through which, we want to extend the uses that are made of the Douro’s riverbanks, exploring a new landscaping context between the riverbanks and the vineyards along the valley. We reflect on the retaining walls and other common constructions in the architecture of the vineyard’s landscape in order to find in these structures the hybrid element on the project that makes the transition from the urban to the vineyard spaces. The projetual description is given in order to be compared to a phased implementation of the project and is divided into different topics that are organized according to the importance that each one has to the "sewing" of the two urban fronts.
