Rock in Portugal: repercussões do género musical na juventude portuguesa (1960 vs. 2014)

Abstract

De acordo com o Manifesto das Sete Artes e Estética da Sétima Arte, a Música ocupa o quarto lugar na breve lista proposta por Ricciotto Canudo, em 1911. Ora, à semelhança de qualquer outra forma de expressão artística, também a música nasceu para mudar o mundo. Não só o mundo dos que a criam, mas o de todos nós, que a ouvimos e que com ela rimos e choramos, vibramos e suplicamos, crescemos, amadurecemos e com ela envelhecemos. A música é toda ela salpicada por diferentes culturas, distintos ritmos e sonoridades díspares, que se cruzam e se tocam em algum ponto. E é nessa desigualdade, que vive a beleza da harmonia musical. A mim toca-me o Rock. Digo “toca-me”, porque o meu coração ressaltase, os meus ouvidos expandem-se, a minha pele arrepia-se. À semelhança de outras formas de expressão artística, O Rock surgiu, igualmente, para deixar uma marca bem carregada no mundo em que vivemos. E, como nós vivemos em Portugal, por que não explorar o fenómeno do Rock nacional? Por que não debruçar-me sobre a chegada, o desenvolvimento e a consolidação desta cultura, no nosso país? Por que não analisar as suas repercussões, marcas, transformações e inovações, deixadas neste pequeno país à beira mar plantado? Assim, para a minha dissertação de mestrado, pretendo explorar a emersão desta subcultura em Portugal, bem como o lugar que ela ocupa, atualmente. Por outras palavras, procurarei aperceber-me das repercussões deste género musical na juventude portuguesa. Desta forma, é minha intenção observar as diferenças e semelhanças vividas entre os jovens da década de 60, protagonistas do surgimento deste movimento em território nacional, com os jovens dos dias de hoje, atores do seu contínuo desenvolvimento. E porquê a seleção da juventude como ponto de vista? Porque foi ela que deu as boas-vindas ao Rock no nosso país e porque é ela que continua a recebê-lo, como visita assídua e constante nas suas vidas. E é este permanente cultivo da cultura Rock, que se arrasta ao longo do tempo, que merece a minha atenção. E como fenómeno de extrema importância na composição da juventude portuguesa, (por vezes, pouco valorizado academicamente), encaixa-se como uma luva nos ideais artísticos, comunicativos e culturais do curso de Mestrado em Comunicação, Arte e Cultura.

According to Ricciotto Canudo’s manifest The Birth of the Sixth Art, Music ranks the fourth place in the short list suggested by Ricciotto Canudo, in 1911. Nevertheless, like any other form of artistic expression, the music also was born to change the world. Not only the world of who create music, but the one from all of us who listen it and laugh, cry, beg, have fun, grow, mature and get old, always with her around us, in every circumstance. The music is all made by different cultures, different rhythms and sounds, crossing and touching each other at some point. And it is in this inequality that lives the beauty of the musical harmony. Rock touches me. I use the term “touch”, because my heart beats faster, my ears expand and my skin shivers up. Like any other forms of artistic expression, Rock came also to leave a very strong mark in the world that we live. And, as we live in Portugal, why not explore this phenomenon of the national Rock? Why not address myself to the arrival, the development and the consolidation of this culture in our country? Why not study his impact, marks, innovations and transformations left in this small country planted by the sea? So, for my master’s thesis I’d like to explore the emergence of this subculture in Portugal, as well his place in contemporary society. In other words, I will try to realize what impacts this music type brought to the Portuguese youth. Thus, it’s my intention to look for the differences and similarities lived among the youth of the 60s, the leading figures of the emergence of this movement in this country, with the youth of today, actors of their ongoing development. And why I selected the youth as point of view for my study? Because youth gave welcomed the Rock in our country and because she continues to receive it, as a constant visitor in their lives. And this permanent cultivation of Rock Music, which creeps over time, deserves my attention. And as a phenomenon of extreme importance in the composition of Portuguese youth, (sometimes, underrated academically), fits like a glove in artistic, communicative and cultural ideals of the Master course in Communication, Art and Culture.
