A violência entre pares na adolescência: desenvolvimento e implementação de um programa de prevenção

Abstract

A violência entre jovens e, mais especificamente, o bullying e a violência nas relações de intimidade, é uma problemática que nas últimas décadas tem adquirido visibilidade, apesar de continuar a carecer de investigação mais aprofundada, sendo escassos os programas de prevenção elaborados com o intuito de debelar a violência entre jovens. Assim, esta investigação teve como objetivo geral conceber, implementar e avaliar um programa de prevenção da violência entre pares. A um nível mais específico, pretendeu-se identificar atitudes face à violência e quantificar comportamentos violentos, promover a mudança atitudinal e comportamental e averiguar a relação entre as atitudes dos jovens acerca da violência e os seus comportamentos, bem como a influência de variáveis sociodemográficas a estes níveis. Por fim, pretendeu-se identificar fatores de variabilidade intragrupal explicativos da mudança, através da formação de clusters que reúnam indivíduos com máxima semelhança entre si e onde sobressaiam as diferenças entre grupos. Neste âmbito, foi desenvolvido o REDE – Programa de Prevenção da Violência Entre Jovens, em parceria com a Juventude Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa, que propõe a prevenção universal, holística e integrada da violência através da ação a nível informativo, atitudinal e comportamental, a par do recurso à educação por pares. Os resultados obtidos revelam que, de um modo geral, ao longo da implementação do programa de prevenção, acentuam-se as atitudes desfavoráveis à violência e o envolvimento dos jovens em comportamentos violentos decresce. Foi possível constatar que atitudes acerca da violência e comportamentos violentos nem sempre estão em consonância e, a nível sociodemográfico, foram obtidas diferenças ao nível da perpetração e vitimação, bem como da mudança comportamental observada. A presente investigação não está isenta de limitações e necessidades de aperfeiçoamento mas, ainda assim, consideramos tratar-se de um trabalho inovador ao qual importa dar continuidade.

Violence among youth, and especially bullying and violence in intimate relationships, is an issue that has become increasingly notorious in recent decades, although further investigation is still lacking, and there are few prevention programs developed with the aim to curb violence among young people. Thus, this research's main goal is to design, implement and evaluate a prevention program aimed at preventing peer violence. At a more specific level, we sought to identify attitudes concerning violence and to quantify violent behaviours, promote attitudinal and behavioural change and ascertain the relationship between young people's attitudes about violence and their behaviours, as well as the influence of sociodemographic variables on them. Finally, we sought to identify factors of intragroup variability capable of explaining change, through the formation of clusters that include subjects with maximum similarity with each other and where differences between groups are protruded. In this context, we developed REDE - Program for the Prevention of Peer Violence in Adolescence, in partnership with the Portuguese Red Cross Youth, which advocates universal, holistic and integrated violence prevention through information, attitudinal and behavioral intervention, along with the use of peer education. The results show that, in general, throughout the implementation of the prevention program, unfavorable attitudes towards violence increased and youth involvement in violent behaviour decreased. It was found that attitudes about violence and violent behaviour are not always consistent and, at a sociodemographical level, differences were obtained both in perpetration and victimization, as well as in behavioural change. This research is not without limitations and needs improvement but still it is considered a ground-breaking work which continuity is of paramount importance.
