Expectativa dos e das adolescentes relativas ao futuro: influência dos estereótipos de género

Abstract

Os estereótipos e papéis de género constituem crenças compartilhadas socialmente sobre como devem ser os comportamentos dos homens e das mulheres. Deste modo, com base na marca corporal homem/mulher, meninos e meninas serão socializados/as diferencialmente através dos agentes de socialização: os meninos na instrumentalidade e no âmbito público, e as meninas na expressividade e no âmbito privado. Sendo os estereótipos e papéis masculinos mais valorizados do que os femininos. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar os estereótipos e papéis de género existentes nos/as adolescentes relativos ao seu futuro quer no âmbito privado, familiar e doméstico. A intenção será perceber através da discussão de opiniões e expectativas futuras, os estereótipos que os e as adolescentes apresentam e como se refletem nas suas expectativas futuras, quando tiverem 30 anos de idade. O presente estudo é qualitativo, realizado através da técnica do grupo de discussão, com um guião de perguntas chave de caráter semiestruturado. Os/as protagonistas foram 53 adolescentes (16 meninos e 37 meninas), com idades compreendidas entre os 10 e os 16 anos, e com uma média de idade de 12.76, distribuídos em 7 grupos de 4 entidades diferentes, todas elas situadas no concelho de Valongo (Norte de Portugal). Os resultados derivados da análise do conteúdo puseram em relevo cinco categorias primárias: i) âmbito privado: familiar e doméstico; ii) âmbito profissional; iii) o conflito trabalhofamília; iv) âmbito pessoal; e v) autoperceção e género. Observou-se uma pequena superação dos estereótipos e papéis de género tradicionais, nomeadamente a transgressão dos papéis e estereótipos de género relativamente às profissões e às atividades de lazer por parte dos meninos. Já as meninas mostram um maior interesse por um trabalho profissional e uma luta pela igualdade no trabalho doméstico. Assim, através da análise de resultados observa-se que é importante que se continue a investir neste tema, e que se promova a implementação de programas que promovam a igualdade de género nas escolas.

The stereotypes and roles of gender constitute socially shared beliefs of how the behavior of men and women should be. As such, based on the distinguished body signature Man/Woman, boys and girls are socially divided by socialization agents: boys on the side of the instrumentality and on the public setting, and girls on the expressivity and the private setting. Having the male stereotype and role more valued than the female’s. The main objective of this study is to analyze the stereotypes and gender roles present among adolescents, related to their future in the private, familiar and domestic settings. The intention is to understand through discussion of opinions and future expectations of the stereotypes that the adolescents show and how they will reflect on their future expectations of when they turn 30 years old. The present study is one of quality, accomplished through the technique of the discussion group, with a script of key questions of a semi-structured character. The sample was of 53 adolescents (16 boys and 37 girls), between the ages of 10 and 16, with the average age being 12.76 years old. The sample was divided in 7 groups of 4 different entities, all of them based on the region of Valongo (North of Portugal). The results of the analysis of the content were translated into five main categories: i) Private, familiar and domestic setting; ii) Professional setting; iii) The work-family conflict; iv) Personal setting; v) Self-perception and gender. It was observed that the stereotypes and traditional gender roles concerning transgression of the socially-accepted professions and leisure actives among boys have been somewhat overcome. As for the girls, they showed a greater interest for professional career opportunities and equality concerning domestic labor. We also have concluded that through the analysis of the results that it is of great importance that this subject must keep being invested on, and on the promotion of implementation of gender equality programs in schools.
