Do Doméstico à escala do Lugar: Minas da Borralha

Abstract

A Borralha, localizada no concelho de Montalegre, era um território que não se distinguia dos outros da região, onde o homem intervinha apenas com pequenos gestos. No início do século XX este paradigma mudou e o lugar foi drasticamente alterado. A busca massiva e incessante pelas pedras negras de volfrâmio deu início à exploração mineira das Minas da Borralha. As minas estiveram, durante todo o período de funcionamento, sujeitas a vários processos de transformação. Todavia, após o seu encerramento, as transformações, em detrimento da otimização da produção, pararam e adquiriram outras formas: o lugar não só ficou sujeito aos efeitos dos ciclos da natureza e de vandalismo, mas também pela ação da população que ficou a habitar na Borralha. Perdeu a sua função mineira e tornou-se um lugar expectante, em que o futuro ficou incerto. A presente investigação pretende responder à questão “como trabalhar com o coletivo que vive no lugar?”, em vez perguntar “que fazer com o lugar?”. Será sustentada numa metodologia onde se analisa a Borralha, a partir da escala do doméstico até à escala do lugar, para se revelar a memória e reconhecer as oportunidades de novas relações entre o habitar e o produzir. A partir de um mapeamento coletivo, elaborado com a população local, será feita uma reflexão do presente, do passado e do futuro da Borralha. Consequentemente será traçada uma estratégia onde se procurará encontrar uma ponte de colaboração profícua entre a produção da “máquina do Ecomuseu” e a produção que poderá resultar da introdução de novos estímulos relacionados com ações domésticas, para conseguir articular as memórias física e imaterial da Borralha com o seu futuro, mas também aproximar a população local aos novos visitantes.

The Borralha, located in the municipality of Montalegre, was a territory indistinguishable from any other in the region, where Man intervened only with small gestures. In the early twentieth century this paradigm changed and the locale was drastically modified. The massive and incessant search for wolfram black stones gave start to the exploration of the Mines of Borralha. The mines were, throughout their working period, subjected to various transformation processes. However, after their closure, the transformations, in detriment to the optimization of production, stopped and acquired other forms: the place was not only subjected to the effects of nature’s cycles and vandalism, but also to the action of the population who stayed inhabiting Borralha. It lost its mining function and became an expectant place, in which the future is uncertain. The present investigation aims to answer the question “how to work with the collective that lives in the place?”, as opposed to asking, “what to do with the place”. It will be sustained in a methodology in which Borralha is analysed, from the scale of the domestic up to the scale of the place, in order to reveal the memory and recognize the opportunities of new relations between inhabiting and producing. From a collective mapping, elaborated with the local population, a reflection of the present, past and future of Borralha will be made. Consequentially a strategy will be charted which will seek to find a bridge of fruitful collaboration between the production of the “Ecomuseum machine” and the production that might result from the introduction of new stimulus related to the domestic actions, to be able to articulate the physic and immaterial memories of Borralha with its future, but also to bring together the local population and the new visitors.
