O equilíbrio caótico do significado linguístico

Abstract

A Teoria do Caos apresenta a imprevisibilidade como a característica fundamental dos fenómenos complexos, o que acarreta consequências relativamente à epistemologia das ciências que os analisam. A língua —sobretudo na sua vertente semântica— comporta-se como um sistema caótico, nesta perspectiva: é dita como “subjectiva”, não-previsível e de unidades de extensão não limitável. Procura-se mostrar que o funcionamento semântico-lexical é, neste sentido, um sistema caótico, o que explica o fracasso da tradicional análise das semânticas das Condições Necessárias e Suficientes e a mais-valia que apresenta uma perspectiva mais globalizante como a semântica cognitiva.

Chaos theory presents the unpredictability as a fundamental characteristic of the complex phenomena, which carries consequences in relation to the epistemology of the sciences that analyse them. Language, especially in its semantic perspective, behaves as a chaotic system. From this point of view, it is known as “subjective”, non predictable and consisting of unities of non-limitable extension. We try to show that the semantic-lexical structure is, in this sense, a chaotic system which explains the failure of the traditional analysis of the semantics of the Sufficient and Necessary Conditions and demonstrates the added value offered by a more globalizing perspective, such as the one of Cognitive Semantics.
