Características psicométricas da versão portuguesa do Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ)

Abstract

A preocupação é um fenómeno transversal a todas as psicopatologias e por este motivo tem sido um foco de investigação em Psicologia clínica e da Saúde. O presente estudo teve como objetivo a validação do Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) para a população portuguesa. É constituído por três estudos, no primeiro o objetivo consistia em avaliar as características psicométricas do instrumento através de uma análise fatorial exploratória, com 144 estudantes. O segundo, centrou-se em avaliar a estrutura fatorial, numa amostra comunitária de 179 participantes, através de uma análise fatorial confirmatória. No terceiro, procedeu-se à comparação dos resultados obtidos entre participantes da amostra da comunidade e da amostra clínica, tal como, à comparação entre o PSWQ e outras escalas que avaliavam a sintomatologia ansiosa, depressiva, ambivalência e desregulação emocional. Através da análise fatorial exploratória e confirmatória, constatou-se que a versão portuguesa do PSWQ é um instrumento bifatorial, representado por um fator geral, á preocupação, e dois fatores metodológicos. Os resultados demonstram que a escala apresenta boas propriedades psicométricas proporcionando a clínicos e investigadores um instrumento que avalia a presença de preocupação.

The worry is a phenomenon transverse to all psychopathologies and for this reason has been a focus of research in Psychology and Health. The present study aimed to validate the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) for the Portuguese population. It consists of three studies, in the first the objective was to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the instrument through an exploratory factorial analysis, with 144 students. The second focused on evaluating the factorial structure in a sample of 179 subjects of the community, through a confirmatory factor analysis. In study three, we compared the results obtained between participants of the community sample and the clinical sample, such as the comparison between PSWQ and other scales. By the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, it was verified that the Portuguese version of the PSWQ is a one-dimensional instrument, however, effects of the method seem to be associated with negative items represented by the second factor. The results showed the appropriate psychometric properties in both samples, emphasize the usefulness of the instrument for clinicians and researchers of Portuguese nationality, that evaluates the presence of worry.
