Design inclusivo: os brinquedos e a criança autista

Abstract

O trabalho de investigação centrou-se na análise de brinquedos existentes no mercado, que são dirigidos para todas as crianças, e até que ponto estes podem ser utilizados pelas crianças autistas tendo em conta as suas particularidades. O objetivo central desta dissertação foca-se no estudo e análise de brinquedos que permitem às crianças autistas de idades pré-escolares brincarem, adquirirem e desenvolverem competências de acordo com os défices que apresentam em diversas áreas. O estudo dos brinquedos incide sobre uma análise formal e qualitativa de brinquedos, tendo em conta os princípios do design inclusivo, os conceitos de cor, forma e textura e ainda relativos à estimulação sensorial. As opções metodológicas incluíram pesquisa bibliográfica, recurso a entrevistas semiestruturadas a diversos profissionais, nomeadamente terapeutas, o assistir de sessões de terapia ocupacional e a análise formal de brinquedos. A pesquisa bibliográfica realizada teve como objetivo a fundamentação dos objetivos e de conceitos abordados, assim como conhecer as necessidades e particularidades das crianças com autismo, perceber quais os métodos e terapias utilizadas para conseguir promover o seu desenvolvimento sobretudo a nível da comunicação, comportamento e socialização e o papel do brinquedo, tanto no tratamento do autismo como ferramenta lúdica essencial ao desenvolvimento da criança. A utilização de entrevistas semiestruturadas aos profissionais que trabalham na Fundação AMA, em Viana do Castelo, assim como o assistir de sessões de terapia realizadas pela instituição a crianças com autismo em idade pré-escolar permitiu não só validar a informação recolhida durante o processo da pesquisa bibliográfica mas também complementar essa informação e conhecer outros aspetos que até então eram desconhecidos ou que ainda não haviam sido postos em causa. Permitiu ainda ver de forma direta o papel de cada profissional no diagnóstico e tratamento do autismo, quais os brinquedos utilizados de acordo com as especificidades das crianças e a área pretendida desenvolver em determinada terapia ou atividade e a interação entre a criança, o brinquedo e o profissional (terapeuta, professor, etc.). A análise dos brinquedos resultou de todo um processo de informação recolhida ao longo do desenvolvimento do trabalho, isto é, foram essenciais as noções de design inclusivo e dos elementos visuais de design- cor, forma e textura –, competências ou objetivos do produto e de estimulação sensorial. Todo o processo investigativo desenvolvido resultou na identificação de algumas diretrizes ou aspetos que devem ser considerados pelos designers na criação de brinquedos inclusivos, que se adequem melhor às necessidades das crianças com autismo.

The research focused on the analysis of the existing toys on the market, which are directed to all children, and to what extent these can be used by autistic children, taking into account their particularities. The main objective of this dissertation is to study and analyze toys that allow autistic children of pre-school age to play, acquire and develop skills according to the deficits they present in different areas. The study of toys focuses on a formal and qualitative analysis of toys, taking into account the principles of inclusive design, concepts of color, shape and texture as well as sensory stimulation. The methodological options included bibliographical research, the use of semi structured interviews with several professionals, specifically therapists, the attendance of occupational therapy sessions and the formal analysis of toys. The literature search aimed the grounding of the objectives and concepts discussed, as well as to know the needs and characteristics of children with autism, understand which methods and therapies are used to be able to promote their development especially in terms of communication, behavior and socialization and the role of the toy, both in the treatment of autism and as an essential tool playful in the child development. The use of semi-structured interviews with professionals working in the AMA Foundation, in Viana do Castelo, as well as attend therapy sessions, conducted by the institution, to preschool children with autism, allowed not only validate the information collected during the literature process but also to complement this information and meet other aspects that were previously unknown or had not yet been called into question. It also allowed to see directly the role of each professional in the diagnosis and treatment of autism, which toys are used according to the specificities of children and the desired area develop in a particular therapy or activity and the interaction between the child, the toy and professional (therapist, teacher, etc.). The analysis of toys was the result of an information process that was collected during the development of the work, that is, the notions of inclusive design and the visual elements of design, color, shape and texture were essential, product competencies or objectives and Sensory stimulation. The entire investigative process developed resulted in the identification of some guidelines or aspects that should be considered by the designers in the creation of inclusive toys that are suited to the needs of children with autism.
