medida Questions to Elicit Elder Abuse (QEEA).
As EC
A estrutura unifatorial do QEEA obteve boas
compreensão do fenómeno do MT. The centration in the development processes of elderly people suffering from maltreatment has been a neglected focus. The literature correlates the styles of attachment and elder abuse with a focus on the aggressor attachment. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to explore the relationship between the elderly person’s attachment styles and the maltreatment and the role of perceived social support and coping, obtaining psychometric characteristics of the instrument Questions to Elicit Elder Abuse (QEEA). Evaluative instruments of these variables were applied to 89 elderly participants, and correlation, regression, differences and confirmatory analyses were performed. Overall, the data suggest that styles of attachment is the predictor with the greatest impact on elder abuse and that the insecure style predicts a greater number of reported elder abuse indicators. People with insecure style perceive less social support, use self-blame and denial as coping strategies, and report more indicators of maltreatment. People with lower perceived social support report a greater number of indicators of maltreatment. Coping strategies and indicators of elder abuse were not correlated. The unifactorial structure of QEEA obtained good psychometric characteristics. We conclude that attachment styles seem to play a central role in understanding the phenomenon of elder abuse. |
