Quem são, o que fazem, o que pensam: perspetivas dos assistentes operacionais sobre o seu trabalho numa escola multicultural

Abstract

O estágio e o projeto que estão na base deste relatório de Mestrado em Educação, área de especialização em Formação, Trabalho e Recursos Humanos – debruçaram-se sobre um grupo profissional que exerce a sua atividade em contexto escolar – os Assistentes Operacionais (AO). O trabalho desenvolvido teve como principais eixos a formação, o trabalho e as relações e interações que eles/as estabelecem com os demais membros da comunidade escolar e da comunidade local. O estágio decorreu na escola sede de um Agrupamento de Escolas EB 2/3 e teve como objetivo conhecer as perspetivas dos AO sobre o seu trabalho, com destaque para as relações e interações que estabelecem com os demais atores educativos nesta escola, a qual designámos de multicultural pelo facto de acolher um número significativo de diversas nacionalidades e também de etnia cigana. O título do relatório procura dar conta do propósito do estudo de saber quem são, o que fazem e o que pensam os AO sobre o seu trabalho numa escola multicultural. O paradigma e os procedimentos metodológicos, de natureza qualitativa, permitiram coletar e analisar um conjunto de dados através da análise documental, da observação e de conversas informais e de entrevistas semiestruturadas com três AO. Os dados qualitativos foram submetidos à análise de conteúdo, originando resultados pertinentes tanto do ponto de vista da investigação como da intervenção. Com base neste trabalho de pesquisa, procedeu-se à análise de necessidades de formação dos AO, considerando as vertentes individual e coletiva. Fruto de fluxos migratórios crescentes, do fenómeno do multiculturalismo e do desafio da educação inclusiva, as escolas precisam de contar mais ainda com este grupo específico de trabalhadores, valorizando-os enquanto pessoas e profissionais e investindo mais na sua formação, em articulação com os municípios, pois é a estes que os AO estão vinculados. Entre outras componentes, o relatório inclui uma caraterização socioprofissional dos AO; o papel que desempenham na escola; as suas relações e interações com os demais atores; o modo como se relacionam com os alunos, particularmente os de diferentes etnias e nacionalidades; o seu contributo para a criação de um bom ambiente escolar; o seu grau de satisfação e motivação; os processos de tomada de decisão na escola e a sua autonomia e participação nos mesmos; e por último o impacto da formação por eles realizada e as necessidades sentidas.

The internship and the project that are at the basis of this master's degree in Education, Specialization in Training, Work and Human Resources – they are main focused on a professional group working in a school context – the operational assistants (OA) . The work developed had as main focus the formation, the work and the relations and interactions that they establish with the other members of the school community and local community. The internship took place at the headquarters school of a group of schools EB 2/3 and aimed to know the OA's perspectives on their work, with an emphasis on the relationships and interactions that they establish with the other educational agents in this school, which we call multicultural because it welcomes a significant number of different nationalities and also of gypsies ethnicity. The title of the report seeks to give an account of the purpose of the study of who they are, what they do and what the Operational Assistants think about their work in a multicultural school. The paradigm and methodological procedures, of qualitative nature, allowed to collect and the analysis of a set of data through documentary analysis, off observation and informal conversations and semistructured interviews with three OA. The qualitative data were submitted to content analysis, giving relevant results both from the research and intervention point of view. Based on this research work, an analysis of the need for training of OA was carried out, considering the individual and collective aspects. As a result of increasing migration flows, the phenomenon of multiculturalism and the challenge of inclusive education, schools need to connect even more with this specific group of workers, valuing them as people and professionals and investing more in their training, in coordination with the municipalities, because it is to these that the OA are linked. Among other components, the report includes a socio-professional characterization of the OA; the role they play at school; their relationships and interactions with other agents; the way they relate to the students, particularly those of different ethnicities and nationalities; their contribution to the creation of a good school environment; their degree of satisfaction and motivation; the decision-making processes at school and their autonomy and participation in them; and finally the impact of the training they carry out and the needs they feel.
