A anatomia do Bairro Social da Atouguia: o espaço entre

Abstract

A presente investigação propõe uma abordagem de aproximação a partir do objeto de estudo selecionado: o Bairro Social da Atouguia, em Guimarães, projetado e construído entre 1973 e 1982 pelo arquiteto Pedro Ramalho com a colaboração de Arménio Losa. Os bairros sociais, construídos em massa no final do século passado, são hoje considerados áreas urbanas marginalizadas face ao restante tecido da cidade. Perante este panorama, são criadas, pelas entidades gestoras, soluções pontuais e de baixo custo que apenas visam a resolução de problemas momentâneos, desconhecendo as dinâmicas intrínsecas ao lugar. Estes, apesar de conotados negativamente, são lugares complexos que formam uma identidade e memória coletiva própria. Através da aproximação ao Bairro Social da Atouguia são reconhecidos os seus espaços entre, nas dinâmicas e usos registados em áreas que, pelas múltiplas apropriações, se definem pela constante transformação. Estes ritmos, refletem as necessidades e ações dos próprios moradores que conferem ao bairro uma identidade diversa e simultaneamente característica. Deste modo, é a partir do espaço entre que se define o olhar específico do objeto de estudo, através da analogia do corpo, da descodificação da diversidade de espaços existentes através do desenho e na procura de métodos para potenciar os espaços identificados. Paralelamente à análise ao projeto arquitetónico do bairro, o registo in situ, a fotografia, o vídeo e a perceção das dinâmicas e apropriações traduzidas para o desenho foram as principais ferramentas de trabalho da presente investigação.

The present investigation proposes an approach based on the selected object of study: the Bairro Social da Atouguia, in Guimarães, designed and built between 1973 and 1982 by the architect Pedro Ramalho with the collaboration of Arménio Losa. Social housing, built en masse at the end of the last century, is considered today marginalized urban areas compared to the rest of the urban fabric of the city. Faced with this panorama, they are designed, by the managing entities, as punctual and low-cost solutions that only aim at solving momentary problems, ignoring the intrinsic dynamics of the place. They are, however, despite their negative connotations, complex places that form their own collective identity and memory. Through the approximation to the Bairro Social da Atouguia, it’s in between spaces are recognized, by the dynamics and uses registered in these spaces that, through multiple appropriations, are defined by constant transformation. These rhythms reflect the needs and actions of the residents, which give the neighbourhood a diverse and simultaneously characteristic identity. Thus, it is from the in between space that the specific look of the object of study is defined, through the analogy of the body, the decoding of the diversity of existing spaces through drawing and the search for methods to enhance the identified spaces. Parallel to the analysis of the architectural project of the neighbourhood, the registration in situ, photography, video and the perception of the dynamics and appropriations translated into drawing were the main working tools of this investigation.
