Resumo(s): | This master's dissertation results from the work carried out in the CST R&D department of the
multinational company Continental AG, in Lousado, in a curricular internship context. The study is part of
the effort to identify the destabilising features of the ultimate component A thickness of agricultural tires,
inserted in the manufacturing analysis.
The focus component addressed in the study of this document is the tire component A. The
ambiguity of results was identified in two situations. The first, given the unchanged theoretical design
specifications, showed that component A Tire Dimension results were different from those initially desired
and obtained. The second, due to the unpredictability of the component A Tire Dimension results, when
alterations to the feature were made. This point comes from the lack of connection between the desired
geometry and the initial design feature to be applied. Both issues were studied and, therefore, it was
decided to divide the project into two major studies: the definition of the component A feature and the
application of component A material A.
The problem identified is based on the dimensional control of the component under study, which
resides in the material A distribution, physically translated by the volume. The adopted methodology uses
STEP models and modelling tools, which, controlled by programming codes written in python language,
are able to modify the model according to the intended dimensional specifications, slice it and obtain the
volumes of each portion of it. Finally, these volumes are converted into thicknesses, which will compose
the new ideal 2D component A feature.
In a second aspect, the production phase is addressed and measurement tests are suggested that
isolate factors with an undetermined impact on the dimensional result of the tire. Five tires of current
production are also analysed, subjected to scan, perimeter, and weight measurements in different
structural stages. A subsequent selection for Tire Dimension study is made to strategically selected tires.
At the end, a new method is developed for the definition of the component A feature that aims to
consider the ideal amount of material in the indicated distribution, allowing the mitigation of movement
of component A material A during vulcanization. In production, some occurrences that influence the
dimensional result of agricultural tires component A are identified. |
