Maria Archer entre o Feminismo e o Neo-Realismo : uma leitura dos romances Ela é apenas Mulher e Aristocratas

Abstract

Este estudo tem como objectivo destacar um nome pouco conhecido das letras portuguesas ao perscrutar o compromisso da literatura de Maria Archer com o Feminismo e Neo-Realismo, sobretudo, no que diz respeito aos dois primeiros romances da autora, Ela é apenas Mulher e Aristocratas , escritos respectivamente em 1944 e 1945. As influências destes dois movimentos, patentes na ficção romanesca, são diversas. No que concerne ao Feminismo, encontramos uma preponderância da figura feminina confrontada, no seu quotidiano, com inúmeros obstáculos que impedem a sua afirmação, começando pelos progenitores, passando pelo marido ou outros elementos da família até à sociedade em geral. Abordam-se, então, temas como a dependência e subjugação da mulher, o casamento, o divórcio, a viuvez, os jogos de contrastes femininos e alguns modos de vida alternativos pouco habituais. Critica-se ainda a educação redutora da mulher portuguesa à semelhança do que já havia sido feito por Eça de Queirós. Quanto ao Neo-Realismo, verificamos que há também uma ligação da autora com o movimento, visto que, além de ter escrito os romances logo após o aparecimento oficial dessa corrente literária, há uma tendência para uma abordagem de temas de índole social. Assim, encontramos ecos neo-realistas na preocupação em descrever pormenorizadamente e denunciar as injustiças sociais, em particular, as relacionadas com condição feminina, com as quais a autora se identifica, onde não falta um leque de personagens muito abrangente e historicamente contextualizadas, numa obra que se quer que figure, principalmente, como documento humano. E, ao actuar deste modo, ressalta, sobretudo, a atitude de compromisso da escritora em transmitir a realidade circundante. O trabalho conclui-se com um breve estudo linguístico e estilístico dos romances onde ressaltamos o seu compromisso com ambos os movimentos, o Feminismo e o Neo- Realismo, e averiguamos também algumas reminiscências da literatura realista de oitocentos.

The aim of this study is to bring to light an unknown name of the portuguese literature, by searching for the commitment of Maria Archer’s writings with Feminism and Neo- Realism, mainly in what concerns to the two first novels of this author, Ela é apenas Mulher and Aristocratas, written in 1944 and 1945 respectively. The influences of these two movements can be found in romanesque fiction. As regards to Feminism, there is a preponderance of the female figure, facing numerous obstacles in her daily routine (such as parents, husband, other family members and the society in a general way) which prevents her self-determination. Thus, the themes handled include woman subordination, marriage, divorce, widowhood, female contrast games and some uncommon ways of life. Moreover, the reductionist education of the portuguese woman is criticised, as had already been done by Eça de Queirós. A connection can be found between the writer and the Neo-Realism, as there is a tendency to the handling of social themes in his writings and, moreover, their novels were written shortly after the official emergence of the literary movement. Neo-realist reminiscences are present in the detailed description and denouncement of social injustices, namely those connected with the condition of women, about which the author expresses concern. Besides, a huge number of historically contextualized characters subsist in a work intended to be, above all, a human document. In this way, prominence is given to the commitment of the writer to describe the surrounding reality. In the end there is a brief linguistic and stylistic analysis of the novels, focusing on the proximity to Feminism, Neo-Realism and even to the 18th century Realism.
