O jornalismo televisivo enquanto construtor e difusor de representações sociais e estereótipos de género

Abstract

Este relatório de estágio refere-se a um estágio de Jornalismo realizado na RTP Porto, nos estúdios do Monte da Virgem, em Vila Nova de Gaia, que decorreu de 3 de abril a 30 de junho de 2023. Neste estágio, para além do trabalho jornalístico, foi tomada a decisão de problematizar a questão da construção e disseminação de representações sociais e estereótipos de género pelo jornalismo televisivo, com foco nas mulheres, admitindo a possível existência de uma linguagem jornalística androcêntrica dominante nas redações, que se reflete nos conteúdos noticiosos, ao retratar, de forma defeituosa e prejudicial, a imagem das mulheres, imagem esta que poderá ser aceite como representação fiel da realidade feminina, por grande parte da sociedade. Dentro desta temática, abordou-se o tipo de linguagem que prevalece nas redações jornalísticas (mais feminina, mais masculina, até mesmo misógina, ou uma mistura de ambas), com um olhar especial sobre a da RTP Porto, o papel que as jornalistas desempenham na adoção de modos de atuação e de escrita misóginos (se tentam contrariá-los ou não e porque o fazem) e a eventual mudança de postura e comportamento das mesmas para se assemelharem aos seus colegas jornalistas homens, sendo mais facilmente aceites. Tratou-se, também, a presença da linguagem inclusiva de género nas peças jornalísticas e a importâncias da utilização de termos inclusivos e da flexão adequada para palavras que pertencem ao feminino e ao masculino, dando um fim ao uso exclusivo do masculino enquanto forma comum dos dois géneros e, consequentemente, ao machismo inerente à linguagem. Ainda, procurou-se saber que tipo de medidas relacionadas com a igualdade de género, da diversidade e da não discriminação já foram implementadas, ou se estas existem sequer, no sentido de se criarem redações jornalísticas plurais, inclusivas e abertas a diferentes realidades, assim como os agentes que devem estar envolvidos no processo. A abordagem implementada (revisão da literatura, observação participante e análise de conteúdo) permitiu concluir que as redações jornalísticas atuais são, ainda, movidas por valores e ideais androcêntricos, refletindo-se numa linguagem e conteúdos poucos inclusivos e muito fechados a alguns aspetos da sociedade e do mundo em geral. A grande maioria das mulheres que exercem a profissão são cúmplices da aplicação destas práticas misóginas, mesmo que inconscientemente, uma vez que absorvem o ambiente fortemente masculino das redações, independente de a sua presença, em termos numéricos, ser maior do que a dos homens.

This internship report refers to a journalism internship at RTP Porto, at the Monte da Virgem studios in Vila Nova de Gaia, which ran from April 3 to June 30, 2023. In this internship, in addition to journalistic work, the decision was made to problematize the issue of the construction and dissemination of social representations and gender stereotypes by television journalism, with a focus on women, admitting the possible existence of a dominant androcentric journalistic language in newsrooms, which is reflected in news content, by portraying, in a defective and harmful way, the image of women, an image that may be accepted as a faithful representation of female reality by a large part of society. Within this theme, the type of language that prevails in journalistic newsrooms (more feminine, more masculine, even misogynistic, or a mixture of both) was addressed, with a special look at RTP Porto, the role that female journalists play in adopting misogynistic ways of acting and writing (whether or not they try to counteract them and why they do so) and the possible change in their posture and behavior to resemble their male journalist colleagues and be more easily accepted. We also looked at the presence of gender-inclusive language in journalistic pieces and the importance of using inclusive terms and the appropriate inflection for words that belong to both the feminine and the masculine, putting an end to the exclusive use of the masculine as a common form for both genders and, consequently, to the machismo inherent in the language. In addition, we sought to find out what kind of measures related to gender equality, diversity and non discrimination have already been implemented, or if they even exist, in order to create pluralistic, inclusive newsrooms that are open to different realities, as well as the agents that should be involved in the process. The approach implemented (literature review, participant observation and content analysis) led to the conclusion that today's newsrooms are still driven by androcentric values and ideals, reflected in language and content that is not very inclusive and is very closed to certain aspects of society and the world in general. Most women in the profession are complicit in the application of these misogynistic practices, even if unconsciously, since they absorb the strongly masculine environment of newsrooms, regardless of the fact that their presence, in numerical terms, is greater than that of men.
