Resumo(s)The binary mixture model was applied in order to provide an explanation of the discrepancy between the calculated and experimentally measured specific cake resistance in TiO2 cakes. The case under consideration shows clearly that, even where physico-chemical factors influence the particle size distribution, for some bimodal dispersed systems where the ratio of larger diameter particles to those of smaller diameter is greater than 4, the specific cake resistance can be defined by using the particle mixture approach. Consideration of tortuosity as a variable parameter dependent on porosity may improve the degree of fit between the cake resistance modelling and experimentally measured results.
