Ser mulher : estudar, trabalhar e ter um vida familiar - será possível?

Abstract

Nos dias de hoje e com o papel cada vez mais activo que a mulher ocupa na sociedade ocidental, um dos maiores desafios que se colocam às mulheres que tem como objectivo fazer uma carreira é a conciliação da vida pessoal e familiar com a vida profissional. A presente dissertação teve como principal objectivo perceber as percepções de três grupos distintos de mulheres relativamente à facilidade ou dificuldade com que antecipam ou vivenciam a conciliação da vida familiar com a vida profissional. Participaram neste estudo 13 mulheres, distribuídas por quatro grupos distintos, respectivamente: adolescentes a frequentar o Ensino Secundário; jovens estudantes do Ensino Superior; profissionais com menos de 30 anos de idade; e profissionais com mais de 40 anos de idade. O instrumento utilizado foi a entrevista semi-estruturada, previamente construída. A análise dos resultados e a discussão dos mesmos foram realizadas sob os princípios da análise temática (Braun & Clarke, 2006). Obtivemos 4 temas distintos, respectivamente: (1) reconhecimento das dificuldades de ser mulher; (2) pouca reflexão acerca do CTF; (3) valorização da vida familiar; e (4) valorização da vida profissional. Dentro destes grandes temas, encontramos ainda 9 sub-temas, que permitiram a compreensão e integração dos dados nos temas principais. Os resultados e respectiva discussão, apontam para uma diversidade de discursos, pautados pelas dificuldades de ser mulher, mãe e ter uma vida profissional. A dificuldade das mulheres em ascender na hierarquia em comparação com os homens, são também reconhecidas e visíveis nos diferentes discursos. Por fim, importa salientar que a maioria das mulheres contribui para a manutenção dos estereótipos de género e do desempenho dos papéis sociais tradicionalmente associados a cada sexo. Neste sentido, a mudança só será conseguida através da consciencialização de mulheres, homens, crianças, adolescentes, organizações e organismos do estado. É portanto, sob esta população que devemos fazer investimentos futuros no sentido da igualdade de géneros e de uma forma mais abrangente, para caminharmos na direcção da justiça social.

Nowadays, with the increasingly active role that women occupy in society occidental, one of the biggest challenges facing women which aims to make a career is the reconciliation of family and personal life and professional life. This work had as main objective to understand the perceptions of three groups of women about the ease or difficulty with which anticipate or experience the reconciliation of family and professional life. 13 women participated in this study, distributed in four groups, respectively - teens to attend high school, young students of higher education, professionals under 30 years of age, and professionals with over 40 years of age. The instrument used was a semi-structured interview, previously built. The analysis and discussion of them were carried out under the principles of thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). We obtained four distinct themes, namely: (1) recognition of the difficulties of being a woman, (2) little thought about the CTF, (3) appreciation of family life, and (4) appreciation of life. Within these broad themes, we also had nine sub-themes, which allowed the understanding and integration of data in the main themes. The results are discussed and point to a variety of speeches, guided by the difficulties of being a woman, mother and have a professional life. The difficulty for women to ascend the hierarchy in comparison with men, are also recognized and visible in different speeches. Finally, it should be noted that the majority of women contributes to the maintenance of gender stereotypes and the performance of social roles traditionally associated with each sex. In this sense, the change will only be achieved through awareness of women, men, children, adolescents, organizations and state agencies. It is therefore, in this population that must make future investments towards gender equality and a more comprehensive way, to walk in the direction of social justice.
