O ensino de estatística de 10º ano através dos media : implicações para o ensino e para a aprendizagem

Abstract

Este estudo teve como principal objetivo descrever e compreender o ensino da estatística no 10.º ano de escolaridade através dos media e suas implicações para o ensino e para a aprendizagem. Neste sentido, estabeleceram-se as seguintes questões de investigação: (1) Que atividades desenvolvem os alunos na aprendizagem de estatística de 10.º ano no tratamento de informação proveniente dos media? (2) Que dificuldades manifestam os alunos de 10.º ano na aprendizagem de estatística? (3) Que constrangimentos emergem no ensino e na aprendizagem de estatística através dos media? Para dar resposta a estas questões, recorreu-se a diferentes métodos de recolha de dados: planos de aulas, registos das observações das aulas em que foi lecionada a unidade curricular de estatística, um questionário, entrevistas semiestruturadas a quatro alunos, um teste diagnóstico antes da lecionação da unidade de estatística, um trabalho realizado pelos alunos no final do estudo da estatística, onde aplicaram os conhecimentos adquiridos em torno de uma notícia retirada de um media à sua escolha. O estudo realizado permitiu concluir que os alunos apresentaram algumas dificuldades e erros na interpretação e na construção de gráficos associados a notícias, designadamente no que diz respeito às escolhas adequadas para poderem explorar os conceitos estatísticos lecionados. Os media são sem dúvida um recurso que é atrativo e motivador mas nem sempre se torna oportuno a sua integração no estudo de tópicos estatísticos, que se tornam mais difíceis se forem explorados a partir de uma dada notícia. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo evidenciam a necessidade de aprofundar a formação dos alunos no aspeto considerado fundamental para o seu futuro, o de conseguirem aplicar conhecimentos de estatística no seu dia-a-dia. Para isso devemos criar condições em anos anteriores que lhes permita desenvolverem essas capacidades deixando de lado o ensino de estatística baseado em fórmulas e criar condições para o ensino deste tema de acordo com a importância que lhe é reconhecida.

The main aim of this study was to describe and understand the teaching of statistics in 10Th grade through the media and its implications for teaching and learning. Therefore, the following research questions were set: (1) What activities develop students in learning statistics 10Th grade in the treatment of information from the media? (2) What difficulties affect students 10Th grade in learning statistics? (3) What constraints emerge in teaching and learning of statistics through the media? To answer these questions, we used different methods of data collection: lesson plans, records and observations of the lessons in which the course of statistics was taught, a questionnaire, semi-structured interviews to four students, a diagnostic test before teaching the statistical unit, a work done by students at the end of the study of statistics, where they have to put statistical knowledge acquired, around a withdrawal news in a media of your choice. The study concluded that students had some difficulties and mistakes in the interpretation and construction of graphs associated with news, particularly with regard to the appropriate choices, in order to explore the statistical concepts taught. The media are certainly a feature that is attractive and motivating but it isn’t always desirable to integrate in the study of statistics, which become more difficult if they are operated from a given news. The results of this study indicate the need for further training of students in the aspect considered essential for their future, they should be able to apply knowledge of statistics in their day-to-day. To do this we must create conditions in previous years to enable them develop these skills, leaving aside the teaching of statistics based on formulas and create conditions for the teaching of this theme in accordance with the importance it is recognized.
