libertadas durante a descarga do material.
Rodents are the most commonly used animals in laboratory experiments and they are kept in cages with a material called bed, in the bottom of the cage. This material may be sawdust, corn cobs or other wood products, and it must be replaced at regular periods intervals, generating a cycle of old bed removal, cage washing, filling the cage with new bed material and finally cage sterilization. The purpose of this mechanical engineering thesis was to develop a simple and completely manual equipment, that was able to measure and dispense the bed in to the cage, with the possibility of adapting it later into a semiautomatic machine, implicating the minimum changes in the original equipment. This equipment should also have a dust extraction system and an elevator mechanism, allowing the transportation of the bed between two reservoirs at different levels, to facilitate the loading of the machine. The machine was divided into several modules primary and secondary. The primary modules include the dosing system, whose function is to measure and dispense the bed into the cage; the elevator system to lift the material of a down to an upper level; the aspiration system in order to create a current of air capable of retain small particles released during the discharge of material. Thus, based on this division, some concepts were created for each module and its evaluation was taken through a decision matrix. Afterwards each concept was thoroughly developed, in which tridimensional models of the components were created, as well as the selection of its materials and manufacturing processes and the selection of standard components. Then, the parametric design was made to determinate the exact dimensions of some critical components and the numerical simulations (using the Solidworks software) allowed the analysis of the tubular structure and the optimization of the aspiration system’s geometry. Even in this chapter, the machine working operating systems studied are presented. In the final phase of this thesis are presents the prototypes performed, that based in real operating tests, allowed to find failures, that otherwise it was impossible to foresee in the design. Based in this tests, necessary changes were made in the new version and it was produced, to verifying the resolution of the problems found. |
