Labirinto e iniciação : da natureza do rito iniciático do herói

Abstract

O estudo agora apresentado partiu da ideia defendida por Mircea Eliade sobre a relação estreita que há entre a figura do labirinto e o rito iniciático. Olhando para o imaginário mitológico ateniense da Grécia antiga, o autor escolheu a lenda ou o mito de Teseu, onde a figura do labirinto cretense aparece, para desenvolver a ideia de Mircea Eliade sobre o rito iniciático que deve ser encarado à luz dos chamados ritos arcaicos de iniciação da juventude que, na terminologia de Eliade, podem também ser denominados de ritos de puberdade. Neste contexto, o plano do nosso artigo é constituído por três partes: a primeira trata do labirinto como mitologema e o seu significado simbólico; a segunda ocupa-se do rito e da iniciação e a terceira parte debruça-se sobre o percurso iniciático do herói e cujo exemplo escolhido é o de Teseu. Na conclusão, o autor reflecte sobre a importância do tema da iniciação e da sua eficácia simbólica na trans-formação [umbildung] antropo-ontológico-existencial do sujeito seja ele tradicional, moderno ou pós-moderno.

This study began with the idea defended by Mircea Eliade on the close relation that there is between the figure of the labyrinth and the initiatory rite. Taking a look at the Athenian mythological imagery of Ancient Greece, the author chose the legend or myth of Theseus, where the figure of the Cretan labyrinth appears, in order to develop Mircea Eliade’s idea on the initiatory rite which must be look at in the light of the archaic rites of youth initiation which, in Mircea Eliade’s terminology, can also be called puberty rites. In this context, the article’s plan is threefold: the first part deals with the labyrinth as a mitologem and its symbolic meaning; the second part deals with rite and initiation and the third part focuses on hero’s initiatory process, whose chosen example is that of Theseus. At the conclusion, the author reflects upon the importance of the initiation theme and its symbolic efficacy in the anthropo-ontological-existential trans-formation [umbildung] of the subject whether it is traditional, modern or post-modern.
