Relativas cortadoras no português europeu falado : interação com as variáveis sociais

Abstract

A partir da hipótese de Kenedy (2007) da antinaturalidade de pied-piping em orações relativas preposicionadas, surge o interesse em aprofundar e testar o tema na variante do português europeu, por serem escassos os trabalhos dedicados à temática. De acordo com o autor, esta estrutura não faz parte da gramática natural do individuo por ser adquirida em meios externos. Nesse sentido, é com este trabalho que procuramos verificar se, no caso de orações relativas preposicionadas, ocorre manifestação da preposição ou não. À não manifestação dessa preposição dizemos que ocorre uma estratégia de relativização chamada cortadora. Dada a complexidade do tema, foram criados objetivos específicos para viabilizar a análise estatística, sendo eles: (i) estudar a ocorrência ou não de pied-piping em função das variáveis idade e escolaridade dos falantes; (ii) verificar com que preposições é que se observa um maior uso da estrutura pied-piping; (iii) analisar e quantificar as ocorrências de pied-piping mediante a função, de complemento ou de adjunto, do sintagma-Q que acompanha a estrutura. Para a concretização deste trabalho procedeu-se à organização de um corpus de fala espontânea, onde foram contabilizadas todas as orações relativas preposicionadas. Foi esta seleção que serviu de base à análise estatística que contemplou a influência de duas variáveis sociais, a faixa etária e a escolaridade. De uma forma geral, é possível adiantar, que se verificou um efeito do fator escolaridade na ocorrência da estrutura pied-piping, apontando a estratégia cortadora como a estrutura sintática mais natural.

Based upon Kenedy’s (2007) hypothesis of the untinaturality of pied -piping in prepositional relative clauses the interest in developing and testing the variant theme in European Portuguese arises, as there are few studies devoted to the topic. According to the author this structure is not part of the core-grammar of the individual due to being received from external media. Therefore, the objective of this endeavor is to verify whether in the case of prepositional relative clauses the manifestation of the preposition occurs or not. In the absence of the manifestation of this preposition it can be concluded that a strategy of relativization known as PP-chopping occurs. Given the complexity of the issue specific objectives were designed to enable statistical analysis, namely: (i) to study the occurrence of pied-piping in relation to the age and education level of the speakers, (ii) verify with which prepositions the occurrence of piedpiping occurs more in the speaker’s dialogue, (iii) analyse and quantify the occurrence of pied-piping accounting for the function, of complement or adjunct, of the CP that accompanies the structure. To elaborate this project it was necessary to organize a corpus of spontaneous speech, where all cases of prepositional phrase use were counted and documented. This selection was the basis of the statistical analysis that examined the influence of two separate social variables: age and education. In general there was an effect of schooling factor in the occurrence of pied-piping structure, pointing the PP-chopping strategy as the natural syntactic structure.
