A obra Venus in Furs e a sua influência em outras formas de arte: um estudo comparatista

Abstract

Venus in Furs é uma obra literária escrita em 1870 pelo autor austríaco Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. Maioritariamente desconhecida do grande público, esta novela não deixa, ainda assim, de ter influenciado um número significativo de manifestações artísticas das mais diversas áreas. Esta dissertação é uma reflexão sobre o influxo exercido por essa obra literária em versões musicais e cinematográficas. Após a elaboração de uma biografia do autor e da análise desta novela, o trabalho reúne e analisa tais manifestações, com especial destaque para as criações musicais dos grupos The Velvet Underground e Electric Wizard e para as adaptações cinematográficas de Joseph Marzano, Massimo Dallamano, Jesús Franco, Monika Treut e Elfi Mikesch, Victor Nieuwenhuijs e Maartje Seyferth e, por fim, de Roman Polanski. Os diálogos interartísticos apresentados nesta dissertação justificam uma abordagem, ainda que sucinta, de algumas questões teóricas, designadamente a definição e o campo de estudos da Literatura Comparada, o percurso diacrónico das relações literaturamúsica e literatura-cinema, e as problemáticas principais subjacentes a uma adaptação cinematográfica.

Venus in Furs is a literary work written in 1870 by the Austrian author Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. Mostly unknown to the general public, this novel still has influenced a significant number of artistic expressions in the most diverse areas. This dissertation is a reflection on the influx that this literary text has had on musical and cinematographic versions. After the elaboration of the author’s biography, and the analysis of his novel, these artistic expressions will be brought together and analyzed, with a special emphasis on the music creations from the bands The Velvet Underground and Electric Wizard and on the film adaptations by Joseph Marzano, Massimo Dallamano, Jesús Franco, Monika Treut and Elfi Mikesch, Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth and, finally, by Roman Polanski. The interartistic dialogues presented in this dissertation justify an approach, although succinct, to some theoretical questions, namely the definition and the field of studies of Comparative Literature, the history of the relations between literature and music and literature and cinema and the problematic of the adaptation of books to films.
