Fatores preditores de psicopatologia em pessoas que vivem com VIH/SIDA

Abstract

O diagnóstico do Vírus da Imunodeficiência Humana (VIH) tem repercussões na saúde física e psicológica, afetando a vida a nível pessoal, profissional e social. Torna-se, por isso, crucial investir na saúde mental destas pessoas e conhecer os fatores que a afetam, pelo que se estabeleceu como objetivo avaliar a sintomatologia psicopatológica em pessoas que vivem com VIH/SIDA e analisar os fatores que possam predizer a psicopatologia, nomeadamente o contributo do apoio social e da estigmatização, que têm sido pouco explorados. Participaram no estudo 62 pessoas, maioritariamente do sexo masculino (n = 51; 82.3%), acompanhadas num Hospital do Norte de Portugal, com idade entre os 21 e 81 anos (M = 49.77; DP = 11.73). Os resultados mostraram uma associação positiva da psicopatologia com a estigmatização e uma associação negativa com o apoio social. Verificou-se que a estigmatização, saber qual a fonte de contaminação e a comorbilidade com outras doenças predizem psicopatologia e que o apoio social desempenha um papel moderador na relação entre estigmatização e psicopatologia. Estes resultados fundamentam a implementação de programas de intervenção que tenham como objetivo promover a saúde mental e consequentemente a qualidade de vida destas pessoas.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) diagnosis has serious repercussions on the physical and psychological health, affecting life on the personal, professional and social levels. Therefore, it is crucial to invest in these people’s mental health and to know the factors that affect it. The aim of this study was to evaluate psychopathology of people living with HIV/AIDS and analyze the factors that can predict it, namely, the contributes of social support and stigma. Sixty-two people, mostly males (n = 51; 82.3%), aged between 21 and 81 years (M = 49.77, SD = 11.73), that are followed in a Hospital of the north of Portugal, integrated this study. The results showed a positive association between psychopathology and stigma, and a negative association between psychopathology and social support. We found that stigma, knowledge of the source of contamination and comorbidity with other diseases predicts psychopathology and also that social support plays a moderating role in the relationship between stigma and psychopathology. These results support the implementation of intervention programs that aim to promote mental health and consequently the quality of life of these people.
