O espaço apropriável entre as coisas

Abstract

A presente dissertação, O Espaço Apropriável entre as Coisas*, visa constituir um modo de observar formas de atuação social, apropriação e socialização no espaço da rua. Assim, o alvo de estudo é a rua como cenário do quotidiano e do comportamento humano. Procura-se compreender como e de que forma o desenho dos espaços e objetos que a compõem poderão incentivar ou inibir modos de apropriação. Busca-se uma aproximação ao espaço pessoal quotidiano, aos lugares que compõem os percursos diários e ocasionais, transformando o trabalho numa perspetiva pessoal e irrepetível. Num momento inicial explicitam-se os processos psicossociais, culturais e comportamentais que influenciam os gestos do ser-humano. Posteriormente, identificam-se os mesmos processos no espaço da rua, entrecruzando as atuações observadas com as contribuições que os vários autores em estudo proporcionam (Gordon Cullen, Herman Hertzberger, Jan Gehl e Jane Jacobs, entre outros). Utiliza-se a imagem e a transformação digital de fotografias para comunicar realidades e pontos de vista próprios, sejam estes observados e comprovados ou especulados. Procura-se, sobretudo, encontrar uma metodologia para observar e compreender as situações em questão, e não um resultado propositivo ou um modo único de atuar e transformar a rua.

The present dissertation, The Appropriable Space between Things*, aims at presenting a means of observing forms of social action, appropriation and socialization on the street space. Therefore, the object of study is the street as a setting for daily life and human behaviour. The work aims to understand how and in which way the design of spaces and objects that are part of the street can encourage or inhibit forms of appropriation. An approach to the daily personal space, to the places that make the daily routes is sought, transforming the work into a personal and unrepeatable perspective. In an initial stage the intention is to understand and clarify which psychosocial, cultural and behavioural processes influence the gestures of the human being. Afterwards such processes are identified in the street space by intertwining the observed actions with the contributions that the several authors in this study made (Gordon Cullen, Herman Hertzberger, Jan Gehl and Jane Jacobs, among others). Unique realities and points of view are communicated by the use of image and digital photo transformations, whether they are observed and proven or object of speculation. Above all, the study seeks to find a methodology to observe and understand the situations discussed in this paper rather than presenting a propositional result or a single form of acting and transforming the street.
