Projecto de representação e interpretação das dinâmicas costeiras do perímetro florestal das dunas de Ovar

Abstract

O seguinte trabalho é uma reflexão prática em torno do tema da representação e da interpretação da paisagem. Partindo de uma inquietação associada à representação temporal e multidisciplinar da paisagem, montámos uma exercício pratico baseado numa metodologia especifica, que aplicamos num fragmento costeiro do Perímetro Florestal das Dunas de Ovar. A investigação desenvolvida foi organizada em três camadas de inscrição — processo natural, processo de artificialização e processo de apropriação — seguindo a estrutura sequencial das etapas do método: interacção, descodificação e síntese. Num primeiro momento, da interacção, deslocamo-nos ao lugar em estudo para seleccionar os temas que íamos abordar. No processo natural abordamos a topografia dunar e o alçado dunar; No processo de artificialização, identificamos três estruturas de artificialização: por plantação, por manipulação territorial e por contenção; No processo de apropriação identificamos um conjunto de actividades que se desenvolviam na costa e se organizavam segundo uma infra-estrutura formada por diferentes limites e cotas topográficas. No passo seguinte, descodificação, confrontamos os registos e os temas elaborados a partir do lugar com outra documentação, de outros autores de outras áreas do conhecimento. Para o processo natural recorremos à Geologia, no qual descobrimos que a amostra em estudo é configurada por duas formações geológicas de escalas e tempos distintos; no processo de artificialização recorremos essencialmente à História e à Engenharia Costeira no qual desvendamos a fixação das areias móveis, a expansão urbana das comunidades costeiras e a construção de esporões na praia; no processo de apropriação recorremos essencialmente às Ciências das Zonas Costeiras, revelando as dinâmicas do mar e as condições climáticas da área da amostra, que condicionam o modo como as pessoas se apropriam daquele espaço ao longo do tempo. Por fim, tendo como base as descobertas das duas etapas anteriores, elaboramos representações que sintetizassem o processo estudado. Deste trabalho resultaram: no processo natural uma representação do Alçado Dunar, um Mapa da Topografia Dunar e uma Linha do Tempo do Processo Natural; no processo de artificialização um Mapa das Estruturas de Artificialização e uma Linha do Tempo do Processo de Artificialização; por fim no processo de apropriação um Linha do Tempo do Processo de Apropriação.

The following work is practice reflection on the theme of representation and interpretation of landscape. From a first concern related to the temporal and multidisciplinary representation of landscape, we devised a practical exercise base on a specific methodology that we applied on a fragment of the Coastal area of the Perimeter Forest of Dunas de Ovar. The undertaken research was organized into three layers of transcription - Natural Process, Artificialization Process and Appropriation Process - following the sequential structure of the steps defined by the method: interaction, decoding and synthesis. To start during the interaction, we organized representations based on field expeditions in order to select the themes that we would include in the analysis. For the natural process we addressed the natural topography of the dunes and the dune elevation; for the Artificialization Process, we identified three patterns of artificiality, by plantation, by land manipulation and by territorial restraint; For the Appropriation Process we identified a range of activities on the beach that where organized by an infrastructure made up of different topographic limits and levels. During the next step of the process, decoding, we compared the records we made at the site with documents from other authors from other areas of knowledge about the same geographical subject. For the Natural Process we supported our research through Geology, and discovered that the site is formed by two geological formations. In the Artificialization Process we relied on History and on Coastal Engineering to unveil the stabilization of the quick sands, an urban expansion of coastal communities and the construction of coastal defence structures on the beach; in the Appropriation Process we relied essentially on Coastal Area Science, showing the dynamics of the sea and the variation of environmental conditions of the site during time. Finally, based on the findings of the two previous steps, we elaborated representations that synthesized the studied layer of transcription. From this work resulted: for the Natural Process, a representation of the Dunar Elevation, a Map of the Dunar Topography and a Time Line of the Natural Process; for the artificialization process, the Artificialization Structures’ Map and a Time Line of the Artificialization Process; and finally, for the Appropriation Process a Time Line of the Appropriation Process.
