One of the major problems in the acceptance of electric vehicles (EVs) by users is related with the autonomy and the required battery charging time, when compared to the refueling time on vehicles with internal combustion engine. With that thought in mind, more and more companies and academic institutions engaged in the research and development of solutions to overcome that gap of the Evs, betting on the creation of fast charging systems for batteries and improvement of existing batteries technologies to support this high power values. This master dissertation has as main goal the implementation of a fast charging system for batteries of Evs, which comes within the framework of a doctoral thesis, and that will be part of a prototype with the same purpose. The fast charging system has a power module that is constituted by two power converters and the various passive inherent elements. To do the interface with the power grid, it is used a three-phase AC-DC converter that aims to act as active rectifier, allowing consumption of sinusoidal currents, control the power factor and control the DC-link voltage. On the other hand, for battery charging is used a DC-DC converter that is connected to the DC-link of the AC-DC converter, and has the important task of providing a constant current for the batteries charging process. In addition to the power module there is a module responsible for their control and that allows to obtain the expected results from the fast charging system for batteries of Evs. In this dissertation it is presented a brief historical survey of Evs, where are also presented some of the main features inherent in Evs, such as the different types of existing Evs, being these purely electric or hybrids, which battery technologies that are more prominent to integrate in these vehicles, the currently solutions for fast charging on Evs and finally an analysis to the converters that are more applicable for such purpose. In order to validate the fast charging system implemented in this dissertation it was necessary obtain results in two stages. Initially, the results were achieved through computer simulations with PSIM 9.1 simulation tool and after the implementation of the prototype through tests made on laboratorial environment. |
