Estigma percebido em ex-reclusos: impactos no trabalho, saúde e habitação

Abstract

O presente estudo foca-se nas experiências de estigmatização e discriminação de ex-reclusos em domínios como o trabalho, a saúde e a habitação. Uma vasta literatura tem-se debruçado sobre o tema das prisões, a vivência em reclusão e a reinserção social dos ex-reclusos. No entanto, em Portugal, são poucos os estudos que investigam as perceções e os processos de estigmatização e discriminação em ex-reclusos. Assim, os principais objetivos deste estudo são: compreender de que forma os ex-reclusos percecionam a discriminação social e a estigmatização e analisar se existe uma relação entre a discriminação percebida e as questões vivenciadas ao nível do trabalho, habitação e saúde. Através de uma metodologia quantitativa, que permite que seja abrangido um maior número de participantes, foram aplicados 104 questionários a ex-reclusos, em que sete são mulheres e 97 são homens, com uma média de idades de 42.13. Os resultados revelam que ter estado recluído é a principal razão para os ex-reclusos percecionarem estigmatização, sendo esta significativamente mais percebida em domínios como o trabalho e a habitação. Verifica-se ainda que os ex-reclusos enfrentam diversas dificuldades económicas e financeiras que interferem igualmente na sua perceção de estigmatização. Todavia, essas diversas dificuldades são enfrentadas e minimizadas devido ao apoio dos familiares e amigos.

The present study focuses on experiences of stigmatization and discrimination of ex-prisoners in areas such as work, health and housing. A vast body of literature has focused on the subject of prisons, on living in reclusion and the social reintegration of ex-prisoners. However, in Portugal, few studies investigate the perceptions and processes of stigmatization and discrimination in ex-prisoners. Thus, the main objectives of this study are: to understand how ex-prisoners perceive social discrimination and stigmatization and to analyze whether there is a relationship between perceived discrimination and issues experienced in terms of work, housing and health. Through a quantitative methodology, which allows a greater number of participants to be covered, 104 questionnaires were applied to former inmates, in which seven are women and 97 are men, with an average age of 42.13. The results show that being incarcerated is the main reason for perceiving stigmatization and this is significantly more perceived in domains such as work and housing. It is also found that former prisoners face various economic and financial difficulties, which also interfere with their perception of stigmatization. However, these various difficulties are faced and minimized due to the support of family and friends.
