executado. The strong presence of Small and Medium Enterprises in the portuguese business tissue, as well as their contribution to the country’s economy, lead to the analysis of the research which was already accomplished about the subject. The relevance of the empirical investigation about these companies arises, not only from the different nature of the subject, but also from the need of research concerning its reality instead of the studies performed in large organizations which are, after words, replied in smaller ones. The main aim of this dissertation was to understand what Small and Medium Enterprises managers do to keep their employees with the highest potential, most exactly, through the eyes of those who are in the frontline of these company’s management. Therefore, we got the view of thirty-six leaders who volunteered to participate in this study and whose activity is mainly included in the secondary sector. Throughout this investigation, according to the respondents’ beliefs, it was possible to understand that the wage is relevant to grab the interest and, afterwards, keep the high potential employees in a company. Nevertheless, the most emphasized retention policy by the employers was the recognition for a well done job. |
