dc.description.abstract | This study aimed (1) evaluate the frequency and characterize the children with a possible diagnosis of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), at the level of clinic symptomatology, well-being and sociodemographic variables; (2) understand the differences between children with and without avoidant/restrictive eating behavior at the level of sociodemographic variables, of well-being, of stress in parent-child relationship and of parental control practices on child feeding. One hundred and forty two children and adolescents (51,2% males), aged between 6 and 16 years old, who are being followed in Pediatric Nutricion and Gastroenterology Consultation of the Braga Hospital, and their caregivers completed the questionnaires. Six cases (50% males) were identified with a possible diagnosis of ARFID, presented as variant the selective eating. All participants presented a normal weight percentile and four presented interference in psychosocial functioning. Children with a possible diagnosis of ARFID presented a weight percentile lower than others. And their parents perceived the weight of their child as lower and presented less concern about your child being overweight/obese in the future. Also, demonstrated more levels of pressure for their child to eat, depression and marital conflicts compared to the others. About psychological well-being, no differences were found. | por |
