Mulheres vítimas de assédio sexual: dez mulheres, dez histórias

Abstract

O presente trabalho aborda a questão do assédio sexual em contexto de trabalho em Portugal e em Angola. Para melhor espelhar o fenómeno, entrevistámos dez mulheres que foram vítimas deste crime e que concordaram em partilhar connosco as suas experiências. Essas mulheres têm em comum o facto de não se terem sentido encorajadas a denunciar o crime às autoridades. O trabalho teve por objetivos: Perceber o que terá sido determinante para que essas mulheres percebessem que as investidas “sutis” dos agressores não eram gestos inocentes. Compreender os sentimentos que dominaram essas mulheres quando se viram envolvidas numa situação de assédio sexual. Indagar quais as razões avançadas pelas vítimas relativamente ao facto de não terem denunciado os seus agressores. Secundariamente, procurar-se-á identificar semelhanças e diferenças nas características predominantes das vítimas e se tal quadro é ou não consistente com a ideia de que não existe um protótipo de vítima de assédio sexual. A amostra retrata quer situações em que o assédio moral foi reiterado, quer casos em que uma única abordagem foi suficientemente impactante para que a vítima se sentisse ofendida. O presente estudo almeja assim contribuir para a sensibilização das pessoas e melhorar a compreensão relativamente a este fenómeno, de modo a tentar diminuir a sua propagação bem como os julgamentos proferidos acerca das vítimas.

This paper addresses the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace in Portugal and Angola. To understand the phenomenon, we interviewed ten women who were victims of this crime and agreed to share their experiences with us. These women have in common the fact that they did not feel encouraged to report the crime to the authorities. The research aimed to: Understand the main reasons motivating these women’s change of perspective regarding the conduct of the aggressors towards them. Understanding the feelings and emotions that pervaded these women when they found themselves involved in a situation of sexual harassment. To identify the main reasons that prevented these women from denouncing or exposing their aggressors. Secondarily, to identify similarities and differences between the victims’ main characteristics and whether the result of this comparison are consistent or not with the idea that there is no typical victim of sexual harassment. Our sample portrays situations in which harassment has been repeated, or cases where a single approach has been shocking enough to make the victim feel offended. The present study aims to contribute to raising people's awareness and understanding of this phenomenon so as to try to reduce its spread as well as the judgments handed down to the victims.
