Assédio sexual em Hollywood: comentários às notícias em Portugal

Abstract

Este estudo debruça-se sobre as notícias do assédio sexual em Hollywood, pretendendo-se compreender as perspetivas dos portugueses sobre este acontecimento, bem como eventuais discursos sobre o assédio sexual em geral. Os objetivos foram compreender os argumentos utilizados para desculpar/culpabilizar o ofensor e/ ou a vítima e avaliar um eventual posicionamento diferenciado entre mulheres e homens. Assim, foram recolhidas 31 notícias do jornal Público resultando em 218 comentários extraídos da página de Facebook deste. Os dados foram analisados através de uma Análise Temática indutiva permitindo identificar dois Temas: “O Discurso da Masculinidade Hegemónica” com dois subtemas, “Culpando as Vítimas de Assédio Sexual no Geral” e “Culpando as Vítimas de Hollywood: os Benefícios do Assédio Sexual e a Denúncia Tardia” e o Tema “Desconstruindo a Masculinidade Hegemónica” também com dois subtemas “Culpando o Assediador e Defendendo a Vítima” e “Todos Sabiam e Ninguém Fez Nada: Cumplicidade em Hollywood”. Os resultados evidenciaram um maior número de comentários de homens no Tema “O Discurso da Masculinidade Hegemónica” e de mulheres no Tema “Desconstruindo a Masculinidade Hegemónica”. Este trabalho revela ainda uma maior frequência de comentários por parte dos homens e, tanto eles como mulheres, dividem-se entre culpar/defender a vítima e o ofensor.

This study focuses on the news about sexual harassment in Hollywood and intends to understand the perspectives of portuguese people about this event, as well as, possible discourses on sexual harassment in general. The objectives were to understand the arguments used to apologize/blame the ofender and/or the victim and to evaluate a possible differentiated positioning of women and men about this phenomenon. Therefore, 31 news from the newspaper Público were collected resulting in 218 comments extracted from it´s Facebook page. The data was analyzed through an inductive thematic analysis allowing to identify two Themes: "The Discourse of Hegemonic Masculinity" with two sub-themes, "Blaming the Victims of Sexual Harassment in General" and "Blaming the Victims of Hollywood" and the Theme "Deconstructing Hegemonic Masculinity" also with two sub-themes "Blaming the Harasser and Defending the Victim" and "Everyone Knew and Nobody Did Something: Complicity in Hollywood". The results showed a greater number of comments from men in the Theme "The Discourse of Hegemonic Masculinity" and of women in the Theme "Deconstructing Hegemonic Masculinity". This study also reveals a higher frequency of comments of men and, both men and women, are divide between blaming and defending the victim and the offender.
