A minha casa, a minha aldeia: a participação portuense nos CIAM e os seus reflexos na arquitetura portuguesa

Abstract

“A minha casa, a minha aldeia” é um trabalho de investigação que tem como principal foco a participação dos arquitetos portugueses nos CIAM, que foi muito significativa no contexto da cultura arquitetónica portuguesa, a partir dos anos 50. Esta dissertação parte do estudo da prática arquitetónica portuguesa em confronto com o panorama europeu, analisando a divulgação de referências internacionais no contexto arquitetónico português, desde o início dos CIAM até à participação portuguesa em Royaumont. A formação de importantes grupos de discussão e a difusão de correntes, quer através do ensino, quer através de revistas de arquitetura, são abordados como fatores cruciais nessa divulgação. O Congresso de 48 tem especial importância, neste contexto, porque torna evidente a influência dos CIAM nos arquitetos portugueses. A participação do grupo do Porto nos CIAM iniciou-se no oitavo congresso em Hoddesdon e permitiu o contacto direto com as novas temáticas que começavam a ser discutidas. As primeiras contribuições do grupo, liderado por Viana de Lima, tinham em vista a formulação da “Carta do Habitat”, um tema bastante discutido nestes congressos. Nesta dissertação, analisa-se com especial atenção a proposta apresentada no CIAM 10, em Dubrovnik, que merece destaque pela introdução de novos valores que marcaram a nossa cultura e ensino arquitetónicos. A expressão “a minha casa, a minha aldeia” surge na descrição desta proposta, em que as questões da identidade e da responsabilidade social do arquiteto têm particular importância. No CIAM de Otterlo e no encontro de Royaumont, do Team X, a figura de Fernando Távora ganhou destaque, tornando visível a proximidade do arquiteto com algumas das ideias aí apresentadas.

“A minha casa, a minha aldeia” is a research mainly focused on the participation of the portuguese architects in CIAM, which was very significant in the context of the portuguese architectural culture from the 50 's. This dissertation starts by studying the portuguese architectural practice in comparison with the european panorama, analyzing the diffusion of the international references of the time in the portuguese architectural context from the beginning of CIAM to the portuguese participation in Royaumont. The establishment of important discussion groups and the dissemination of trends, both through teaching and through architectural magazines, are approached as crucial factors in this diffusion. The “Congresso de 48” is especially important in this context because it shows how the portuguese architects are influenced by CIAM. The participation of the group CIAM Porto started at the eighth congress in Hoddesdon and allowed the direct contact with the new themes that were starting to be discussed. The first contributions of the group, which was guided by Viana de Lima, aimed for the formulation of the "Habitat Charter", a theme that was much debated in these congresses. This dissertation analyses attentively the proposal shown at CIAM 10, in Dubrovnik, which deserves special attention as it introduces new values that influenced our architectural culture and teaching. The expression “a minha casa, a minha aldeia” appears in the description of this proposal, which gives special importance to the matters of identity and of the social responsibility of the architect. At the CIAM in Otterlo and at the Royaumont meeting of Team X, Fernando Távora stood out, showing how close the architect was to some of the ideas that were discussed there.
