Pai atrás das grades: relatos entre amor e sofrimento

Abstract

Nos últimos tempos tem-se assistido a mudanças consideráveis nas relações paterno-filiais. Assim, tendo em conta que a reclusão se constitui como um contexto social restrito, que dificulta significativamente esta vivência, bem como a escassez de estudos nesta área, torna-se pertinente compreender: (1) a experiência e significação da paternidade por parte de pais; (2) a sua preocupação relativamente ao modelo transmitido e (3) o modo como os filhos reagem ao crime e à reclusão. Os participantes foram 12 reclusos do Estabelecimento Prisional da Madeira e os dados foram recolhidos através de um Questionário Sociodemográfico e uma Entrevista Semiestruturada, construídos com base numa revisão prévia da literatura. Adotou-se um design de investigação do tipo qualitativo, baseado na Análise Temática indutiva de entrevistas, que permitiu identificar três temas principais (1) “Os pais: do passado ao presente”, (2) “Os filhos e a reclusão” e (3) “Efeito do crime nos filhos: rutura ou continuidade?”, com dois subtemas cada. Os relatos dos pais são marcados por sentimentos de amor, mas sobretudo de sofrimento pela ausência na vida dos filhos. Por parte dos descendentes existe grande variabilidade entre a aceitação e a revolta e rejeição da figura paternal. Finalmente, revelaram-se diferentes posicionamentos dos pais face à transmissão de um modelo de criminalidade.

In recent times there have been considerable changes in relations between fathers and their children. Thus, considering that reclusion constitutes a restricted social context, which significantly hinders this experience, as well as the scarcity of studies in this area, it is pertinent to understand: (1) the experience and meaning of fatherhood by parents; (2) their concerns about the model given to their children and (3) how children respond to crime and imprisonment. The participants were 12 prisoners from the Madeira Prison and data were collected through a Sociodemographic Questionnaire and a Semi-Structured Interview, based on a previous literature review. A qualitative research design was adopted, based on the inductive Thematic Analysis of interviews, which identified three main themes (1) “Parents: from the past to the present”, (2) “Children and reclusion” and (3) “Effect of crime on children: rupture or continuity?”, with two subthemes each. The reports of parents are marked by feelings of love, but especially of suffering due to the absence in their children's lives. On the part of the descendants there is great variability between the acceptance and the revolt and rejection of the father figure. Finally, different positions of parents were revealed regarding the transmission of a crime model.
