Re(ver) o habitar: a casa de uma pessoa invisual

Abstract

Esta dissertação explora a relação entre a habitação e o seu habitante, através do estudo do modo de habitar de alguém com deficiência visual. Este divide-se em três capítulos, cada um nomeado a partir de um livro que serve como principal referência na exploração de cada tema. O primeiro capítulo, baseado no livro A Dimensão Oculta (de Edward T. Hall), começa pela análise geral dos sentidos humanos, desenvolvendo a influência dos estímulos sensoriais na perceção de um espaço e como forma de experienciar a arquitetura. Para tal, são explorados os conceitos de sensação, emoção e perceção, de modo a perceber a ligação emotiva entre o homem e a arquitetura. O segundo capítulo, baseado no livro Habitar (de Juhani Pallasmaa), foca-se no tema da casa e a sua relação com o seu habitante, partindo posteriormente para uma análise focada no modo de habitar e de perceber o espaço do habitante em questão: alguém invisual. Este estudo pretende perceber as principais dificuldades diárias de uma pessoa invisual, bem como os fatores mais influentes na sua perceção espacial. Aprofundando o tema da casa, o terceiro capítulo baseado no livro A Pattern Language (de Christopher Alexander), define os principais “padrões” do habitar do residente em questão, utilizando-os na concretização de espaços individualmente definidos e otimizados ao seu modo de habitar e às suas especificidades. Estes espaços são depois organizados de forma a gerar múltiplas variações habitacionais, demonstrando não apenas uma solução final de uma casa para alguém invisual, mas várias soluções. Por fim, o estudo finaliza com a reflexão sobre a relação entre a casa e a sua envolvente, focando-se em dois tipos de lote distintos, um urbano e outro na paisagem, analisando não só o habitar no interior de uma casa, mas também como usufruir do exterior.

This dissertation explores the relationship between the house and its residents through the study of the way of living of someone with visual impairment. This study splits into three chapters, each named after a book that serves as the principal reference in the development of each theme. The first chapter, based on the book A Dimensão Oculta (by Edward T. Hall), begins with a general analysis of the human senses, focusing on the influence of sensory stimuli in the perception of space and in the way of experiencing architecture. Thus, it was explored some concepts such as sensation, emotion and perception, to understand the affective bond between the man and architecture. The second chapter, based on the book Habitar (by Juhani Pallasmaa), focuses on the theme of the house and the connection with its resident, moving then to a more in-depth analysis of the way the resident in question inhabits and understands a space. Therefore, this investigation intends to understand the principal daily obstacles of a visually impaired individual, and also the most important factors in his perception of space. Concentrating on the theme of the house, the third chapter based on the book A Pattern Language (by Christopher Alexander), defines the principal living “patterns” of the resident in question, using them in the realization of individual spaces, optimized to their routine and specificities. These spaces are later organized in different ways to originate multiple housing solutions, displaying not one final solution of a house for someone visually impaired, but multiple solutions instead. Finally, this investigation ends with a reflection about the relation between the residency and its surroundings, in this case, focusing on two types of lots, one urban and another in nature, therefore analyzing not just the way of living inside the house, but also how to enjoy the exterior.
