Escritos de guerra. Narrar a guerra na 1ª pessoa

Abstract

Os inícios do século XX são tempos conturbados para Portugal. No que concerne ao contexto político, a instauração do regime republicano em 5 de outubro de 1910 foi seguida de um período de instabilidade política, agravada pela instabilidade internacional e pelo início da 1ª Guerra Mundial em 1914. Após complexas negociações, e alguns golpes de teatro, Portugal entra na guerra ao lado dos aliados em 1917 e envia cerca de 55 mil soldados para França. O contexto social reflete as tensões políticas, dividido em duas posições antagónicas de contestação e de apoio à participação de Portugal no conflito. A imprensa vai desempenhar um papel fundamental, a nível nacional e a nível internacional, no apoio aos interesses oficiais portugueses e à difusão de uma visão amenizada da guerra. A fim de explorar os modos de discursivização deste conflito mundial, pretende-se analisar os escritos de guerra, publicados na revista Portugal na Guerra, com destaque para o modo como é construído o relato da guerra, na 1ª pessoa, nestas três dimensões: o eu e o(s) Outro(s), o espaço e o tempo da guerra e a guerra como objeto de discurso.

The beginnings of the twentieth century are troubled times for Portugal. Concerning the political context, the republican regime, which was introduced in 5th October 1910, was followed by a period of political instability, aggravated by international instability and the beginning of World War I in 1914. After complex negotiations, and a few theatre hits, Portugal enters the War alongside the allies in 1917 and sends about 55,000 troops to France. The social context reflects the political tensions, divided in two antagonistic positions of contestation and support of the entrance of Portugal in the war. The press will play a key role, both nationally and internationally, in support of Portuguese official interests and of the diffusion of an enlightened view of the war. In order to explore the forms of textualization of this world conflict, I intend to analyze the writings of war, published in the magazine Portugal na Guerra, with emphasis on the way the war report is constructed in the first person, in three dimensions: the self and the Other (s); the space and time of war and the war as object of discourse.
