Imaging (FLIM), usando-se o método Time Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC).
As medições
With the discovery of graphene in 2004, the study of 2D materials and the pursuit of understanding its fascinating properties have grown. The possibility of 2D materials hosting defects that function as single photon emitting points such as in hexagonal boron nitrate (h-NB) has motivated further study in the area. Although the nature of single photon emitting defects is still a matter of much academic debate, the optical emission property has motivated numerous scientific research. In this thesis, the photon emission by atomic defects in h-BN was studied. The sample was excited by an excitation source consisting of a pulsed laser that emits one hundred femtoseconds wide pulses with a repetition of 80 MHz and the excitation wavelength of 530 nm with emission above 600 nm. The excitation wavelength was activated from a photonic fiber that was used to produce white light where it was selected or the wavelength of interest to excite a sample. Fluorescence emission was studied using the Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM) technique using the Time Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC) method. The first results showed a high density of emitting points in the sample and generally, the emitting sources showed gradual bleaching when the excitation beam was focused on them and in some cases ending with the total bleaching of the emitting source. The measurements also revealed the manifestation of blinking from the emitting sources. The strong bleaching outbreak that ended in full bleaching in some cases questioned the nature of the sources as they were supposed to remain stable over long measurements. Therefore, annealing at 500ºC was performed to clean the sample of possible impurities that act as fluorescence emitting sources and to increase the number of single photon emitting defects. The results after annealing showed a density of fluorescence emitting sources. Such sources showed low intensity in relation to fluorescent spots observed before annealing. |
