Crime e loucura nas novelas policiárias de Fernando Pessoa

Abstract

Esta dissertação se propõe a investigar o tratamento dos temas do Crime e da Loucura na obra policial de Fernando Pessoa, especificamente no conjunto Quaresma, decifrador: as novelas policiárias (2014). Para isso, este estudo analisa a relação do autor com o gênero, que se iniciou na infância e se estendeu por toda a sua vida. Além disso, avalia as concepções de Fernando Pessoa e de seu detetive, Abílio Quaresma, no que concerne às psicopatologias e a sua ligação com o crime. Para compreender os conceitos e o vocabulário utilizado por Quaresma, analisaremos algumas obras médicas que Pessoa leu para formar o seu próprio esquema da mente humana. Assim, será possível avaliar a importância das histórias policiais no desenvolvimento intelectual de Pessoa e o lugar que esse gênero ocupa no corpus pessoano.

This dissertation aims to investigate the themes of Crime and Insanity in Fernando Pessoa’s detective fiction, specifically in the Quaresma stories, As novelas policiárias (2014). To achieve that goal, this study analyzes the relationship between the author and the detective genre, which began during his childhood and extended throughout his life. Additionally, it evaluates the ideas about the psychopathologies and their relation to crime proposed by both Fernando Pessoa and his fictional detective, Abílio Quaresma. To understand the concepts and vocabulary used by Quaresma, we will analyze a few works in medicine, which Pessoa has read to create his own scheme of the human mind. Then, it will be possible to evaluate the importance of detective stories in Pessoa’s intellectual development, and the place that detective fiction occupies on Pessoa’s corpus.
