A competência comunicativa intercultural na língua estrangeira como meio de promoção da dignidade humana e da justiça social em alunos do ensino médio do Estado de Pernambuco

Abstract

O presente trabalho pretende mostrar a importância de se aprender uma língua estrangeira em um ambiente de imersão linguística e cultural. Analizamos a Competência Comunicativa Intercultural em alunos de escolas públicas do estado de Pernambuco, num programa de intercâmbio, lançado em 2012 pelo governo do estado de Pernambuco. Através do Programa Ganhe o Mundo, jovens oriundos de escolas públicas têm a oportunidade de passar um semestre letivo fazendo intercâmbio e estudando em um país de língua estrangeira, podendo ser inglês, espanhol e mais recentemente alemão. O nosso estudo foi focado em alunos que participaram de um intercâmbio em países de língua inglesa. Com o nosso trabalho objetivamos mostrar as mudanças e o impacto que o intercâmbio teve na vida desses alunos, além dos fatores que podem ter causado tais mudanças, procurando caracterizar a competência comunicativa e a competência intercultural dos alunos que participam do programa "Ganhe o Mundo", antes e depois do intercâmbio. Procuramos identificar os efeitos da experiência internacional desses alunos, no âmbito pessoal, escolar e/ou profissional ao evidenciar o impacto do conhecimento de uma segunda língua (inglesa), sua prática num contexto de imersão linguística e, consequentemente, de contextos socioculturais distintos em suas experiências e relações interpessoais com amigos, colegas e familiares, entre outros. Para tal aplicamos um teste para medir a sensibilidade intercultural e proficiência linguística a 23 alunos em duas fases distintas, uma antes e outra após o intercâmbio. Além disso fizemos uma entrevista a 10 desses alunos algum tempo após a chegada do intercâmbio, para analisar as mudanças na sua vida. Com os resultados dos testes e das entrevistas pudemos ver como uma experiência no exterior ajudou, não somente a ampliar a visão de mundo, mas também o desempenho linguístico em língua estrangeira na vida desses alunos. Caracterizamos processos de inclusão social, promoção da dignidade humana e da justiça social, relacionados com a experiência de contato intercultural feitos durante o intercâmbio. Ao retornarem, esses alunos demonstram mais interesses nos estudos, em trabalhos comunitários, assim como uma maior atenção e interesse por questões envolvendo o meio ambiente. A tese termina com algumas recomendações visando contribuir, a partir dos resultados obtidos, para a elaboração de políticas voltadas ao ensino de línguas estrangeiras e para a justiça social. Nosso estudou nos mostrou que aprender um idioma estrangeiro se configurou um passo importante para a mobilidade social, intelectual e profissional, contribuindo para a dignidade humana e a promoção da justiça social.

This work aims to show the importance of learning a foreign language in an environment of linguistic and cultural immersion. We analyzed Intercultural Communicative Competence in students from public schools in the state of Pernambuco, in an exchange program, launched in 2012 by the government of the state of Pernambuco. Through the Programa Ganhe o Mundo (Win the World), young people from public schools have the opportunity to spend an academic semester doing an exchange and studying in a foreign language country, which can be English, Spanish and more recently German. Our study was focused on students who participated in an exchange in English-speaking countries. With our work we aim to show the changes and the impact that the exchange had on the lives of these students, in addition to the factors that may have caused such changes, seeking to characterize the communicative competence and the intercultural competence of the students who participate in the program "Ganhe o Mundo", before and after the exchange. We seek to identify the effects of the international experience of these students, on a personal, school and / or professional level, by highlighting the impact of knowledge of a second language (English), their practice in a context of linguistic immersion and, consequently, of different socio-cultural contexts in their experiences and interpersonal relationships with friends, colleagues and family, among others. To this end, we applied a test to measure intercultural sensitivity and linguistic proficiency to 23 students in two distinct phases, one before and one after the exchange. In addition, we did an interview with 10 of these students sometime after the arrival of the exchange, to analyze the changes in their lives. With the results of the tests and interviews we could see how an experience abroad helped, not only to broaden the worldview, but also the linguistic performance in a foreign language in the lives of these students. We characterize processes of social inclusion, promotion of human dignity and social justice, related to the experience of intercultural contact made during the exchange. Upon returning, these students show more interest in studies, in community work, as well as greater attention and interest in issues involving the environment. The thesis ends with some recommendations aimed at contributing, based on the results obtained, to the development of policies aimed at teaching foreign languages and social justice. Our study showed us that learning a foreign language was an important step towards social, intellectual and professional mobility, contributing to human dignity and the promotion of social justice.
