Análise dos determinantes da produtividade na indústria têxtil e de vestuário portuguesa

Abstract

O nível de produtividade condiciona o crescimento potencial de uma economia e o aumento dos níveis de rendimento e padrões de vida da população. Nesse sentido, torna-se essencial compreender a sua evolução e os fatores que lhe são subjacentes. Neste sentido, esta investigação assenta numa revisão de literatura onde, inicialmente, é retratada um pouco da história do setor em causa, em Portugal, e a sua caracterização. A importância da produtividade para o crescimento económico, seja de uma economia, ou de setores de atividade em particular, suscitou o estudo dos determinantes da produtividade, considerando a produtividade do trabalho, bem como a produtividade total dos fatores, em Portugal. Ainda dentro da revisão de literatura são mencionados estudos anteriores sobre produtividade, as variáveis utilizadas pelos autores e que serão a base do meu estudo metodológico, com o intuito de conseguir comparar as conclusões obtidas por esses autores com as minhas próprias conclusões. Foi adotada uma metodologia com base em estatística descritiva e estimados modelos de regressão linear simples tendo em conta as variáveis de interesse selecionadas. É previsível, mesmo segundo a literatura, que as mesmas sejam significativas e tenham impacto na produtividade (positivo ou negativo). É esse o principal intuito desta dissertação verificar se, efetivamente, as conclusões vão ao encontro da previsão inicial e demonstrar que as variáveis selecionadas ajudam a determinar a produtividade, também no caso do sector têxtil português.

The level of productivity limits the potential growth of an economy and increases the level of income and living standards of a population. Therefore, it becomes essential to comprehend its evolution and its adjacent factors. In this regard, this investigation is based in a literature review where, initially, it is described some of the sector’s history, in Portugal, and its characterization. The importance of productivity for economic growth, of an economy or of specific sectors of activity, generated the study of productivity determinants, where labour productivity is considered, as well as the total productivity of the factors, in Portugal. Previous studies about productivity are also mentioned in the literature review, as well as the variables used by the authors and that are going to be used as the base of my methodological study, with the purpose of comparing the obtained conclusions of those authors with my own conclusions. The adopted methodology is based in descriptive statistic and estimated simple linear regression models having in consideration the chosen variables. It is predicted, and supported by literature, that they are significant, and that they have an impact in productivity (positive and negative). This is the main objective with this dissertation, to verify if, effectively, the conclusions match the initial prediction and to demonstrate that the selected variables help to determine productivity, even in the case of the Portuguese textile sector.
