Saúde mental das crianças em acolhimento residencial: a intervenção dos profissionais

Abstract

Crianças/jovens em acolhimento residencial têm maior prevalência de problemas comportamentais e emocionais requerendo, na sua maioria, de intervenção técnica especializada. Em Portugal, o conhecimento sobre os modelos e estratégias de intervenção adotados pelas casas de acolhimento é escasso. Com isto, três casas de acolhimento foram estudadas utilizando a análise documental e entrevista. A análise de conteúdo revelou que a modalidade de intervenção mais utilizada junto das crianças é externa às casas, seguindo-se o relevo atribuído pelos profissionais ao papel da psicofarmacologia e, finalmente, não se registaram modelos empiricamente validados e informados. A ação técnica fundamentada e o envolvimento da família são os pilares da intervenção e devem constituir o foco da avaliação da sua eficácia em acolhimento residencial.

Children/youths in a residential care have higher prevalence of behavioral and emotional problems and therefore require, mostly, specialized technical intervention. In Portugal, knowledge about the intervention models and strategies adopted by shelters is scarce. Knowing this, three shelters were analyzed using document analysis and interviews. The content analysis revealed that the method of intervention most used with children is external to the shelters, following the importance attributed by professionals to the role of psychopharmacology and finally without using empirically validated and informed models present in the intervention. Grounded technical action and family involvement are the cornerstones of the intervention and should be the focus of the assessment of their effectiveness in residential care.
