Accommodation is a dynamic change in the refractive power of the lens, which causes the optical system to vary its focal length, thus allowing the formation of a sharp image on the retina of an object at a finite distance. The visual system, when suffering a loss of efficiency, ends up hindering activities that require the use of near vision, causing symptoms and leading to what is called “accommodative dysfunctions”. Accommodative dysfunctions are visual anomalies that affect individuals' binocular vision performance, reducing the eye's ability to focus on objects. This work is based on a literature review and its main objective is to deepen the knowledge about the various types of accommodative disorders, such as what signs and symptoms we should be aware of and what is the best treatment option for each of these binocular anomalies. Regarding accommodative dysfunctions, it was concluded that according to the articles published so far, accommodative insufficiency is the one with the highest prevalence rate. Regarding the treatment for each of the dysfunctions, it was concluded that for accommodative insufficiency and accommodative fatigue, the treatment that obtains the best results is the addition of positive lenses and, for accommodative inflexibility and accommodative excess, visual therapy is the best treatment option, thus leading to more beneficial results for the subject. |
