Tradução e localização: uma experiência na área da saúde em contexto de estágio na empresa iCognitus4ALL - IT Solutions

Abstract

Apesar da notoriedade que sempre teve, a tradução deve o seu recente destaque ao fenómeno da globalização, tendo em conta, que, atualmente, existe uma grande necessidade de comunicar a uma escala global. É a partir deste processo de tradução que um significado de um determinado discurso linguístico é transmitido de uma língua para outra. Assim sendo, o tradutor cumpre um papel fundamental, sendo um profissional indispensável para a comunicação global. O presente relatório tem como principal objetivo apresentar o trabalho desenvolvido, bem como relatar, analisar e refletir sobre a experiência obtida ao longo do estágio curricular, realizado no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue na iCognitus4ALL - IT Solutions, uma empresa de design e desenvolvimento de software e aplicações móveis maioritariamente para a área da saúde. O estágio consistiu na tradução e revisão de documentação técnica e apresentações da empresa, tradução dos seus websites e plataformas desenvolvidos por esta, para além de quaisquer outras tarefas que surgiram durante o estágio e que estavam enquadradas na área das línguas, da tradução e também da comunicação. Ao longo dos meses de estágio, foram realizadas quatro tarefas que considero serem as principais, inseridas nas áreas da tradução e na criação de conteúdo, nomeadamente a tradução e revisão de um dicionário de terminologia, tradução de um guia de utilizador tanto para português como inglês, a transcrição e tradução de uma aplicação, e a tradução de documentos como Política de Privacidade e Termos de Utilização. Neste relatório procura-se, então, descrever e refletir sobre as tarefas que foram realizadas ao longo do estágio, englobando também uma contextualização da empresa acolhedora e a metodologia de trabalho utilizada, sendo dada uma maior relevância à tradução técnica, e à área da saúde, em especial educação médica, que fará parte do enquadramento teórico, sendo esta a área de trabalho de destaque da empresa, tendo sido trabalhada ao longo do estágio. Consequentemente, serão expostas, neste documento, uma análise das dificuldades surgidas na execução dos projetos, da sua posterior resolução, estratégias adotadas e aprendizagens desenvolvidas, terminado com uma reflexão sobre esta experiência e as suas mais-valias para o futuro enquanto tradutora profissional. Ao mesmo tempo, isto tudo será enquadrado por um uma contextualização teórica e metodológica.

Despite the notoriety it has always had, translation owes its recent recognition to the phenomenon of globalisation, considering that, nowadays, there is a great need to communicate on a global scale. It is from this translation process that a meaning of a particular linguistic speech is transmitted from one language to another. Therefore, the translator plays a crucial role, being an essential professional for global communication. The main objective of this report is to present the work developed and to report, analyse and reflect on the experience obtained during the curricular internship, carried out in the scope of the master’s degree in Translation and Multilingual Communication at iCognitus4ALL - IT Solutions, a company that designs and develops software and mobile applications, mainly for the health area. The internship tasks consisted in the translation and revision of technical documentation and company presentations, translation of its websites and platforms developed by the company, as well as any other tasks that arose during the internship that were within the area of languages, translation, and communication. During the months of the internship, four tasks were carried out which I consider to be the main ones, within the areas of translation and content creation, namely the translation and revision of a dictionary of terminology, translation of a user guide into both Portuguese and English, the transcription and translation of an application, and the translation of documents such as the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. This report therefore seeks to describe and reflect on the tasks that were carried out throughout the internship, also encompassing a contextualisation of the host company and the work methodology used, with greater relevance being given to technical translation, and to the area of health, in particular medical education, which will be included in the theoretical framework, this being the company's outstanding area of work, which has been worked on throughout the internship. Therefore, this document will present an analysis of the difficulties encountered in the implementation of the projects, their subsequent resolution, strategies adopted and the acquired knowledge, ending with a reflection on this experience and its added value for the future as a professional translator. At the same time, this will all be supported by a theoretical and methodological contextualisation.
