Habitar as nuvens: uma visão horizontal para um edifício vertical

Abstract

Vivemos num tempo em que algumas cidades da Europa (e de Portugal, por arrasto) vão sendo obrigadas a adaptar-se a um crescimento urbano acentuado. Talvez devido a tal situação, e com especial incidência nos séculos XX e XXI, se tem verificado a necessidade de equacionar a arquitetura de forma vertical e começado a colocar-se a hipótese de que o edifício é considerado vertical (quando visto pelo exterior) e a envolvente é considerada horizontal (quando vista do interior). Focando-nos na habitação coletiva e na ideia de vivência em comunidade, esta investigação procura desenvolver uma reflexão prática e teórica, dividida em dois volumes (caderno de desenhos e relatório), sobre uma estrutura de elevada concentração e estratificação programática e sobre as necessidades societais em paralelo com as relações habitacionais. Perante isto, emerge esta dualidade do domínio privado de cada habitação em complemento ao espírito coletivo entre as pessoas que ocupam o mesmo espaço. Com efeito, consideramos essencial uma reflexão sobre o desenho destes espaços partilhados pelos habitantes, inevitável neste tipo de edifícios. A proposta que se segue atreve-se a discutir a validade das torres ou arranha céus num contexto talvez inusitado (na região norte de Portugal), diretamente relacionados com a sensação de vertigem, relação de transparência e condição de luxo enquadradas na cidade, construindo um objeto que vem contrariar e até desafiar a história e a arquitetura da cidade de Guimarães.

Nowadays, some cities in Europe (and in Portugal, by drag) are being forced to adapt to an accentuated urban growth. Perhaps due to this situation, and with special incidence in the 20th and 21st centuries, there has been a need to consider architecture in a vertical way and to start hypothesising that the building is considered vertical (when seen from the outside) and the surroundings are considered horizontal (when seen from the inside). By focusing on collective housing and the idea of community living, this research seeks to develop a practical and theoretical reflection, divided into two volumes (sketchbook and report), on a structure of high concentration and programmatic stratification and on societal needs in parallel with housing relations. In this context, this duality of the private domain of each habitation emerges as a complement to the collective spirit between the people who occupy the same space. Indeed, it is essential to reflect on the design of these spaces shared by the inhabitants, which is inevitable in this type of building. The following proposal dares to discuss the validity of the towers or skyscrapers in a quite unusual context (in the north region of Portugal), directly related to the sensation of vertigo, transparency relation and luxury condition framed in the city, building an object that contradicts and even challenges the history and the architecture of the city of Guimarães.
