Climatic events and their effects reinforce concern about global warming. Since climate change influences the frequency and intensity of natural hazards, resilience and risk mitigation research is growing worldwide. The main goal is to prepare communities for the effects of increasingly extreme hazards. The interaction between academia and asset owners and operators has made it possible to develop practical tools and risk assessment methodologies seeking effective decisions on asset management in face of these events. The challenge is complex and a solution will require knowledge from different fields. This work presents some existing research projects, methodologies, and policies, their successes, and the challenges arising from their application. The future of risk management research is discussed in this document with emphasis on the need to join the efforts of all stakeholders.por
