Perceção dos contabilistas sobre a imagem presente e futura da profissão: estudo comparativo Portugal e Espanha

Abstract

Na literatura deparamo-nos com vários estudos que se inclinam para a investigação da perceção da figura do contabilista através de várias perspetivas, incluindo a visão da sociedade, dos próprios profissionais e até dos estudantes. No entanto, são poucos os estudos que realizam comparações interculturais, especialmente em contexto internacional. Nesse sentido, despertou o interesse em realizar uma nova pesquisa que investigasse a perceção dos contabilistas acerca da sua profissão no presente e no futuro. Essa iniciativa levou à comparação entre os contextos de dois países vizinhos, Portugal e Espanha. Para atingir esse objetivo pretendeu-se dar respostas a duas questões de partida: Qual a imagem associada ao contabilista na perspetiva dos profissionais de contabilidade, em Portugal e Espanha? e quais as semelhanças entre Portugal e Espanha relativamente ao modo como os contabilistas percecionam o futuro da profissão? Para fundamentar teoricamente esta pesquisa, realizou-se uma revisão de literatura abordando o estereótipo, a imagem do contabilista e da sua profissão e, por último, a perceção futura dos profissionais de contabilidade. No contexto da metodologia de investigação, o trabalho segue uma abordagem qualitativa com base no paradigma interpretativo, cujo método de recolha selecionado foram as entrevistas semiestruturadas dirigidas a profissionais de contabilidade em Portugal e Espanha. Nas conclusões, observou-se que não existe um consenso entre profissionais portugueses e espanhóis acerca da imagem do contabilista. Os entrevistados reconhecem a importância da profissão, mas existem divisões na compreensão do estereótipo associado. Quanto aos desafios que a profissão enfrenta, reconhecem que existem mudanças significativas no ambiente político, económico e social, identificando a necessidade de investir em formação. Sobre a visão do futuro da profissão entre contabilistas portugueses e espanhóis, não existe um consenso. Alguns preveem impactos significativos na forma como o trabalho será realizado, enquanto outros não esperam grandes mudanças. Contudo ambos concordam que o futuro da profissão contabilista terá um futuro promissor. O estágio realizado decorreu na Consultores Vila Castro S.L, sediada em Lousada, especializada em serviços de consultoria nas áreas da contabilidade e fiscalidade. Esta experiência foi essencial para o meu crescimento pessoal e profissional, capacitando-me para a profissão de Contabilista Certificada e para a conclusão do Mestrado em Contabilidade pela Universidade do Minho.

In the literature, we come across numerous studies that lean towards the investigation of perception of the accountant's role from various perspectives, including the vision of society, the professionals themselves, and even students. However, there are few studies that form cross-cultural comparisons, especially in the international context. Considering this, there is an interest in conducting a new study that would investigate accountants' perception of their profession in the present and future. This initiative led to a comparison between the contexts of two neighboring countries, Portugal and Spain. To achieve this goal, the aim was to address two initial questions: What is the image associated with accountants from the perspective of accounting professionals in Portugal and Spain? And what similarities exist between Portugal and Spain regarding how accountants perceive the future of the profession? To theoretically support this research, a literature review was conducted addressing the stereotype, the image of the accountant and their profession, and finally, the future perception of accounting professionals. In the context of the research methodology, the study adopts a qualitative methodology grounded in the interpretive paradigm, using semi-structured interviews as the chosen method of data collection, involving accounting professionals in Portugal and Spain. Along the conclusion, it was observed that there is no consensus among Portuguese and Spanish professionals regarding accountants' image. They interviwees recognize the importance of the profession, but there are divisions in understanding the associated stereotype. Concerning the challenges faced by the profession, they recognized significant changes in the political, economic, and social environment, indicating the need to invest in training. Concerning the vision of the future of the profession among Portuguese and Spanish accountants there is no consensus. Some professionals anticipate a significant impact on how work will be conducted, while others foresee minimal changes. However, both groups agreed that the future of the accounting profession holds promise. The internship took place at Consultores Vila Castro S.L, based in Lousada, specializing in consulting services in the areas accounting and taxation. This experience was crucial for my personal and professional growth, preparing me for the Certified Accountant profession and the accomplishment of the Master's in Accounting at the University of Minho.
