Avaliação da linguagem em crianças com medida de acolhimento residencial na Região Norte

Abstract

O desenvolvimento adequado da linguagem é reconhecido como sendo elementar para que a criança desenvolva aprendizagens e competências sociais, emocionais e comunicativas em contextos inclusivos. A finalidade deste estudo exploratório consistiu em avaliar a linguagem de crianças de ambos os géneros, que frequentavam desde o ensino pré-escolar ao 3º ciclo do ensino básico e que estivessem abrangidos pela medida de acolhimento residencial. Os participantes a quem foi aplicada a Grelha de Observação da Linguagem (GOL-E, 2ª Edição) de Sua-Kay e Santos (2014), distribuíram-se pela faixa etária dos seis aos doze anos e habitavam na região norte de Portugal. A partir dos resultados obtidos verificou-se que dos trinta e cinco participantes apenas três se encontravam no Percentil 50 ou acima deste (os únicos em valores expectáveis para a sua faixa etária). Constatou-se que a idade e o nível de escolaridade têm influência nos resultados da avaliação da linguagem nas crianças avaliadas, nomeadamente nos Totais da I estrutura semântica, da II estrutura morfológica, da III estrutura fonológica e no total das estruturas da GOL-E. Se tivermos em consideração que os valores máximos de avaliação da GOL-E se situam nas idades compreendidas entre os 9-10 anos, observamos que estas onze crianças com faixa etária 11-12 se situavam bastante abaixo do pretendido. Os participantes obtiveram resultados preocupantes, sendo o seu desempenho inferior ao estabelecido nas normas do instrumento GOL-E. Este estudo evidencia a situação crítica de alunos em idade pré-escolar e escolar com perturbações da linguagem sem referenciação nem sinalização no sistema educativo.

The adequate development of language is recognized as being elementary for children to develop social, emotional and communicative learning and skills in inclusive settings. The purpose of this exploratory study was to assess the language of children of both genders, from preschool to elementary school, who were in residential care. The participants to whom the Language Observation Grid (GOL-E, 2nd Edition) of Sua-Kay and Santos (2014) was applied were aged between six and twelve years old and lived in the northern region of Portugal. From the results obtained, it was found that of the thirtyfive participants, only three were at or above the 50th percentile (the only ones with expected values for their age group). It was found that age and schooling level have an influence on the results of the language evaluation in the children evaluated, namely in the Totals of the I - semantic structure, of the II - morphological structure, of the III - phonological structure and in the total of the structures of the GOL-E. If we take into consideration that the maximum values of the GOL-E evaluation are in the ages between 9-10 years, we observe that these eleven children with age range 11-12 were well below the intended. The participants achieved worrisome results, with their performance being below the standards set forth in the GOL-E instrument. This study highlights the critical situation of preschool and school age students with language disorders without referral or identification in the educational system.
