Tradução audiovisual em plataformas de streaming: experiência de estágio curricular na wisdom TRANSLATIONS

Abstract

O presente relatório visa apresentar e analisar em detalhe a experiência de estágio curricular decorrido sob a alçada da empresa wisdom TRANSLATIONS, no âmbito do quarto semestre do Mestrado de Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue da Universidade do Minho. Devido ao enfoque principal do estágio ter sido a modalidade de tradução audiovisual, este relatório aborda somente essa área de tradução em duas perspetivas: teórica e prática. Quando ao domínio teórico, são abordados não só o passado que levou ao estudo da tradução audiovisual como uma modalidade independente dos estudos de tradução em geral, mas também as distinções que levaram a essa mesma separação. Relativamente ao domínio prático, expõe-se o trabalho realizado durante os 3 meses de estágio, analisando a produtividade quantitativamente e explorando a forma como a legendagem é atualmente utilizada em plataformas online de streaming. Finalmente, apresentam se considerações finais sobre o trabalho realizado e a experiência em geral.

The purpose of this report is to present and analyze in detail the internship experience that took place under the company wisdom TRANSLATIONS, as part of the fourth semester of the master’s degree in Translation and Multilingual Communication (MTCM) at the University of Minho. As the focus of the internship was audiovisual translation, this report covers only this area of translation from two separate perspectives: theoretical and practical. As far as the theoretical side is concerned, it covers not only the background that led to the study of audiovisual translation as a separate discipline from translation studies in general but also the distinctions that led to this separation in the first place. Regarding the practical side of the analysis, it presents the work conducted during the 3-month internship, analyzing its productivity quantitatively and exploring how subtitling is currently used on online streaming platforms. Finally, there are concluding remarks on the work conducted and the overall experience.
