Benefícios das colaborações universidade-indústria: revisão sistemática da literatura

Abstract

Os projetos de Colaboração Universidade-Indústria (UIC – University Industry Collaborations) em investigação e desenvolvimento são atividades singulares realizadas num período específico e, apesar de não haver dois iguais, os projetos de modo geral – e, neste caso em específico, os projetos em contexto de investigação e desenvolvimento em colaboração Universidade-Indústria – partilham um propósito comum: gerar benefícios para os seus stakeholders. Este trabalho tem como objetivo identificar os benefícios referidos na literatura e analisar de que modo estes se enquadram com os possíveis stakeholders. Através de uma Revisão Sistemática da Literatura (RSL) este desenvolve um catálogo dos benefícios no contexto específico de projetos UIC. A RSL identificou 213 artigos iniciais que, após a aplicação dos critérios de exclusão, foram reduzidos para 125 e destes, após análise detalhada, foram selecionados 54 artigos. Esta RSL permitiu identificar 45 benefícios de projetos de UIC, tais como 'Patentes', 'Publicações' ou ‘Nova Criação de Conhecimento’, mas também outros mais inesperados com ‘Desenvolvimento de relações interpessoais’. Os resultados produzidos por esta investigação podem levar a questionar se foi eficaz na recolha de todos os benefícios referidos na literatura. A este respeito, um resultado global de 45 benefícios no total pode parecer um número baixo – mesmo tendo em conta que para várias entradas foi aplicada uma designação comum quando se concluiu que os autores se referiam ao mesmo tipo de benefício. A recolha de benefícios foi então dividida em três grupos – outputs, resultados e impactos – onde se verificou que o número de outputs citados era residual quando comparado com os outros dois grupos o que salienta o facto de os benefícios dos projetos UIC irem muito além da produção direta do projeto. Espera-se que os resultados encontrados possam ser utilizados como fonte de informação para a gestão de benefícios de UIC e, possivelmente, como input para a avaliação do sucesso dos projetos UIC.

University Industry Collaborations (UIC) projects in research and development are unique activities carried out in a specific period and, although there are no two alike, projects in general – and, in this particular case, projects in the context of university-industry collaborative research and development – share a common purpose: to generate benefits for their stakeholders. This work aims to identify the benefits mentioned in the literature and analyze how they fit with potential stakeholders. Through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) it develops a catalogue of benefits in the specific context of UIC projects. The SLR identified 213 initial articles that, after applying the exclusion criteria, were reduced to 125 and of these, after detailed analysis, 54 articles were selected. This SLR allowed identifying 45 benefits of UIC projects, such as 'Patents', 'Publications' or 'New Knowledge Creation', but also more unexpected ones with 'Development of interpersonal relationships'. The results produced by this research may lead to questioning whether it was effective in collecting all the benefits mentioned in the literature. In this regard, an overall result of 45 benefits in total may seem like a low number – even taking into account that for several entries a common designation was applied when it was concluded that the authors referred to the same type of benefit. The benefit collection was then divided into three groups – outputs, results and impacts – where it was found that the number of outputs mentioned was residual when compared to the other two groups, which highlights the fact that the benefits of UIC projects go far beyond the direct production of the project. It is expected that the results found can be used as a source of information for the management of UIC benefits and, possibly, as input for the evaluation of the success of UIC projects.
