"We are the world" - A promoção da competência intercultural nas aulas de inglês

Abstract

Realizado no âmbito do Estágio do Mestrado em Ensino de Inglês no 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico pela Universidade do Minho, o presente relatório de estágio visa documentar a escolha e desenvolvimento do projeto “We are the world” - A promoção da competência intercultural nas aulas de Inglês. O projeto foi estruturado durante a primeira fase do estágio que decorreu de abril a junho de 2020, e posteriormente desenvolvido no 1º semestre do ano letivo 2020/2021, numa turma do 3.º ano, pertencente a um Agrupamento de Escolas do concelho de Guimarães. Os objetivos do projeto foram: aferir o conhecimento sociocultural e interesses das crianças; promover competências de cidadania associadas aos direitos humanos e à interculturalidade, em articulação com a promoção de competências comunicativas; desenvolver competências de autorregulação da aprendizagem; avaliar a potencialidade das atividades didáticas na promoção da competência intercultural. Na fase inicial recorri à observação de aulas e análise de um questionário inicial, que permitiram a recolha de dados para executar na fase intermédia, onde implementei a competência intercultural nas aulas de inglês no 1.ºCEB. As estratégias de intervenção utilizadas para a promoção da competência intercultural foram: arts and crafts, task based, vídeos, picture books, discussões em turma sobre as temáticas problematizadas, bem como a avaliação, tanto linguística como processual, dos alunos. Os resultados indicaram que os alunos se mostraram bastante recetivos ao tema, foram bastante empenhados nas tarefas e participativos nas atividades. Conclui-se que a promoção da competência intercultural é algo que complementa o ensino da língua inglesa, tornando a aprendizagem mais rica, não só em vocabulário e gramática, mas também em valores de respeito e empatia.

Carried out within the scope of the Internship of the master in English Teaching in Primary Education by University of Minho, this report aims to document the choice and development of the project "We are the world" – A promoção da Competência Intercultural nas aulas de Inglês. This project was structured during the first phase of the internship that took place from April to June 2020, later developed in the 1st semester of the academic year 2020/2021, in a 3rd year class, of a school located in the city of Guimarães. The project's objectives are: to assess children's sociocultural knowledge and interests; promote citizenship skills associated with human rights and interculturality, combining with the promotion of communicative skills; develop competences for self-regulation of learning; to evaluate the potential of didactic activities in promoting the intercultural competence. The implementation of my project is based on the initial phase, where I resorted to the observation of classes and analysis of the initial questionnaire, which allowed me to collect data to perform in the intermediate phase. The intervention strategies used to promote the intercultural competence were: arts and crafts, task based, videos, picture books, class discussions of the themes, as well as the assessment, both linguistic and procedural, of the students. The results of the analysis show that students were very receptive to the topic, extremely committed to the tasks and participative in the activities. From the final results it can be concluded that the promotion of the intercultural competence is something that complements the teaching of the English language, making learning richer, not only in vocabulary and grammar, but also in values such as respect and empathy.
