dc.description.abstract | Introduction: The high comorbidity between non-suicidal self-injury and feeding and eating disorders suggests that probably both share psychosocial factors such as adverse childhood experiences and difficulties in emotional regulation. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the presence of non-suicidal self-injury in individuals with eating disorders, comparing the groups with and without non-suicidal self-injury and to analyze whether there are associations between adversity, emotional regulation, non-suicidal self-injury and dysfunctional eating behaviors. Method: Sixty-six participants with a diagnosis of feeding and eating disorder were evaluated in a single moment, through self-report measures. Results: Twenty-four participants (36.4%) reported the presence of non-suicidal self-injury. This group had a higher severity of dysfunctional eating behaviors. Although the presence of adversity were not associated with dysfunctional eating behaviors or NSSI, the model of path analysis showed that more difficulties in emotional regulation and a greater number of methods of non-suicidal self-injury were directly associated with a higher severity of eating pathology. Discussion: Dysfunctional eating behavior, non-suicidal self-injury and difficulties in emotional regulation seem to be associated. The therapeutic focus on these dimensions may have implications in the prevention and treatment of feeding and eating disorders. | por |
